Welcome to the Columbia School District in Columbia, Mississippi. Columbia is located in south central Mississippi on Highway 98 between McComb and Hattiesburg. The city has a population of 6319 and is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. The Columbia School District serves 1680 students in two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. All schools are well-maintained and provide an excellent learning environment for students. The district has high expectations for student achievement and for employee professionalism. There is a tremendous sense of Wildcat pride among students, parents, alumni, and the community.
In May, 2016, the voters of the school district overwhelmingly passed a bond issue by 87%. Nearly $9,750,000 in renovation/new construction projects are nearing completion on all four school campuses. The project of highest priority, as determined by the community, was the renovation of and addition to the Crystelle Ford Auditorium and Herrington Band Hall at Columbia High School. The auditorium serves as a venue for multiple school and community events as well as for the annual school musical. Another project of high priority is the construction of a new classroom wing at Columbia Elementary School which will house the district's third grade students beginning in August 2017.
The district has a tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. Athletic teams hold many district, regional, and state titles. Students are provided exposure to the arts through the band, musicals, and visual/performing arts program.
