WILDCAT ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES
The mission and goal of the Columbia School District athletic program is to provide opportunities for students to participate in a variety of competitive sports and to develop good sportsmanship and other attributes of a well-rounded student. We believe it is necessary to have a comprehensive, well-organized athletic program to benefit those who wish to participate. The major objective of the athletic program is to provide a wholesome environment in which participation in athletics will help students develop positive attitudes toward teammates, coaches and competition. Each student will be given the opportunity to participate in any sport if he/she meets the requirements the sport demands. The athletic program will be conducted in a manner that will not discriminate against students on the basis of gender, race, or ethnicity. The Wildcats are well-known for their successes both on and off the field through our outstanding athletic programs. We offer football, track and field, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, cross country, archery, powerlifting, golf, tennis, and volleyball. We have won 3 MHSAA State Championships: Wildcat Baseball in 2011 and Wildcat Football in 1982 and 2021. In Wildcat Archery, Jaxon Martin won first place in the MHSAA Individual State Championship for the 2022 season. In Wildcat Tennis this year we had 5 qualify for the MHSAA State Championship which was more than any other team in our district for the second year in a row. We had a student placed 4th in the MHSAA Powerlifting State Championship. Our Wildcat Track and Field Teams finished strong with the boys placing 2nd and the girls placing 5th in the MHSAA State Championship. The CHS Boys Basketball Team made it to the MHSAA State Play-Offs, and the CHS Baseball Team made it to the play-offs placing 2nd in the district.
In Wildcat Football we had an impressive eight players signed to play at the next level this year including one at SEC powerhouse Alabama. We have had other athletes sign to continue to play in the sports of Baseball, Tennis, and Cheerleading.
