The Board of Trustees:

Approved
minutes of previous meetings.
·
Heard
a report from Dr. Tommy Blakeney on the year-end warranty review of the
renovations and additions to Columbia High School.
·
Transferred
interest earnings in the amount of $15,420.33 from Sixteenth Section Funds to
the District Maintenance Fund.
·
Approved
the Claims Docket for payment of accounts.
·
Acknowledged
the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school
buses for special events.
·
Accepted
gifts of a cash donation from Winn Dixie in the amount of $131.69 to CPS, K-1,
a Macintosh Computer and HP printer from Ryan and Colleen Heise to Columbia
High School, and a cash donation from the Exxon Foundation in the amount of
$500.00.
·
Granted
CPS, K-1 PTA permission to conduct two fundraisers during the 2001-2002 school
year.
·
Approved
a request to discard one printer, tag #3108, which is beyond repair.
·
Approved
requests from district employees for their children to attend Columbia Schools
(Christopher Ryan Belgrave-CPS, K-1 and Nathaniel and Tiffany Powell-JMS).
·
Gave
second approval of the job description for teachers, Policy
GBBAJE/GBBAKE/GBBALD/GBBAMD.
·
Approved
a recommendation that no changes be made in the district's insurance and fringe
benefits program and that the IRS Section 125 Plan be continued for 2002.
·
Approved
amendments to the FY 2002 budget.
·
Renewed
the district's property insurance, general liability, automobile (including
buses), and umbrella liability insurance coverage with T. C. Griffith Agency.
·
Authorized
the use of Columbia High School as the Marion County site where the National
Pharmaceutical Stockpile would be deployed in the event of an act of
bio-terrorism in our area of the State.
·
Accepted
employment resignations submitted by Linda Young and Maggie Webber, bus
drivers.
·
Approved
the employment of Mrs. Susan Griffith for the position of Early Childhood
Liaison, Mr. Royce R. Oatis as a part-time ISD supervisor at CHS, Stephanie
Stringer as a substitute teacher, and Diane Schepemaker, Donna Stringer, Lisa
Bircher, and Patsy Moree as substitute cafeteria workers for the remainder of
the 2001-2002 school year pending a current background check as required by
State law.

Granted
an employee maternity leave.
·
Heard
a report from Dr. Dannye Long, Curriculum Director, on the Mississippi
Curriculum Test Proficiency Level Standards.
·
Was
informed of a 100% physical inventory of vocational and technical programs, and
received minutes of administrative staff meetings.
·
Discussed
plans for a self-study of district schools for the Southern Association of
Colleges & Schools accreditation site visit.
·
Was
informed of the upcoming NSBA conference.
·
Received
the monthly financial status report.
·
Discussed
confidential matters in executive session.
·
Approved
a recommendation to place six students in the alternative program.
·
Accepted
a proposal from School Services, Inc. to conduct a superintendent search.
·
Appointed
Dr. Thomas H. Blakeney as interim superintendent until June 30, 2002.
·
Recessed
the meeting until 8:00 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2001, for the purpose of
considering bids received for a canopy at Jefferson Middle School, renovation
of the canopy at Columbia Elementary School, and re-roofing the administration
building.
