The Board of Trustees:

Approved
minutes of previous meetings.
·
Heard
a report on district building projects.
·
Was
informed that the purchase of the Prejean property on the corner of Broad
Street and Branton Avenue has been completed.
·
Approved
the Claims Docket for payment of current accounts.
·
Received
monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special
events.
·
Gave
second approval of revisions to the Student Code of Conduct & Discipline
Plan, School Handbooks, and District Policies GBEBA (Employee Dress Code)
and IHA/IHE (Grading, Reporting Promotion and Retention).
·
Approved
requests from employees living out of the district for their children to attend
district schools: Raymond Powell, Jr. (CPS, K-1), son of Raymond Powell; and
Santanta Hampton and Arlexia Newson (CPS, 2-3), children of Cynthia Hampton.
·
Approved
a request from Mrs. Renee Pounds, Food Service Supervisor, to discard 1997-1998
food service records.
·
Approved
requests from supervisors for permission to conduct fundraisers: CHS baseball
team to sell Coke products (August 28 - September 12, 2003) and CPS, 2-3 to
sell gifts, wrapping paper, candy, etc. in the fall and to sell World's Finest
Chocolate after Christmas.
·
Accepted
a proposal from Bruckner's Photography for all school pictures at CHS during
the 2003-2004 school year.
·
Approved
a request to discard one CPU cover, tag #2287, which is beyond repair.
·
Approved
a request to travel out-of-state.
·
Acknowledged
the poll of the Board granting the CHS Band permission to travel out-of-state
to attend the Drum Corp competition/performance in Baton Rouge, LA.
·
Accepted
a cash donation in the amount of $297.00 from the JMS PTA to purchase three
park benches for the front foyer at Jefferson Middle School.
·
Approved
the final amended FY 2003 budget.
· Accepted a bid from Buffalo Services, Inc. for transportation fuel for the period of July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004.
·
Accepted
bids received for used surplus school buses and automobiles from the highest
bidder.
·
Approved
an employee's request for maternity leave.
·
Granted
an employee a medical leave of absence.
·
Accepted
employment resignations submitted by Sonya Gates, first grade teacher at
Columbia Primary School; Betty Turner, cafeteria worker; and Lisa Williamson,
guidance secretary at Columbia High School.
·
Was
informed that Mr. Gary Gros did not accept the position of regular education
teacher in the Day Treatment class at CES.
·
Approved
the following employment recommendations for the 2003-2004 school year pending
the results of a current back ground check as required by State law:
*Brandon Tucker as an
English teacher at CHS
*Sophia A. Bickman as a
sixth grade social studies teacher at JMS
*Debbie B. Gray as a first
grade teacher at CPS
*Jacqueline Ratliff as a
pre-kindergarten teacher assistant at CPS
*Patricia Watts as a SPED
teacher assistant at JMS
*Sidney L. Watts as an
eleven-month janitor at JMS
*James Bryant as a temporary
bus mechanic
*Milton Averett, Carla
Douglas, Ronda Mulford, Melissa Polk, and Edward
Ruffin as bus drivers
*Rebecca Creel as a
full-time cafeteria worker
*Marcus Miller, Chasity
McNeff, and Sherry Reid as part-time cafeteria workers
