REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JULY 20, 2006

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Adopted the proposed FY 2007 Budget and the 2006-2007 Ad Valorem Tax Request Worksheet.

 

·        Approved the transfer of interest earnings from Sixteenth Section Funds to the District Maintenance Fund.

 

·        Approved a transfer of funds from the District Maintenance Fund to the District Improvement Fund.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: refrigerator, tag #972; refrigerant recovery unit, tag #621; metal climber, tag #1324; swing set, tag #2158; wood climbers, tag #s 1325, 1327, 1328, & 1342; monkey bars, tag #1329; and truck playground set, tag #1331.

 

·        Granted permission for the Columbia High School football staff to hold a summer football camp July 25-27, 2006.

 

·        Gave permission to discard food services records for the school year 2000-2001.

 

·        Approved requests from district employees living out of the district for their children to attend Columbia schools for the 2006-2007 school year:

·        Granted permission for Columbia High School students, as well as adult chaperones, to travel out-of-state to New Orleans, LA to attend the New Orleans Saints home football games as part of an incentive program to promote student attendance, positive behavior, and academic improvement.

 

·        Approved the purchase of five (5) multimedia projectors and carts, five (5)  DVD/VCR players,  and one (1) laminator for Columbia High School; four (4)  computer work centers  and four (4) computer lab chairs for Jefferson Middle School;  wireless access points for the Columbia Primary School wireless system; additional computers for Columbia Primary School; computer software/licenses for all approved computer purchases; and  services provided by JBHM Education Group for English I and Algebra I support at Columbia High School using District Improvement Funds.

 

·        Tabled the recommendation for first approval of revisions to School Board Policy JCBJ – Substance Abuse (Alcohol/Drugs).

 

·        Renewed its contract with the University of Southern Mississippi to provide school psychology services for the 2006-2007 school year.

 

·        Discussed confidential personnel matters in executive session.

 

·        Received a report from the Superintendent which included the audit report for fiscal year ending June 30, 2005, the 2006-2007 opening of school schedule, and earned school board training credits.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Malissa Flowers, teacher at Jefferson Middle School, Linda Young, alternative education teacher assistant, and Tracy Nightingale, Day Treatment teacher at Jefferson Middle School.

 

·        Approved employment of the following persons for the 2006-2007 school year: Shelly Segalini as a special education teacher at Columbia High School pending the results of a current background check as required by State law, Jennifer Dement as the seventh grade science teacher at Jefferson Middle School pending the results of a current background check as required by State law, Heather Singley as a special education teacher at Columbia Elementary School pending certification and the results of a current background check as required by State law, LaShun Posey as a full-time teacher assistant at Columbia Elementary School, Greg Owen as head slow-pitch softball coach, Terrance Jackson as assistant football coach, Brenda Shields as assistant girls basketball coach, Darren Smith as assistant 8th grade football coach, Celia Broom as a fifth grade teacher at Columbia Elementary School pending the results of a current background check as required by State law, and Bridgett Cox as a teacher assistant for the Fast ForWord computer lab at Columbia Primary School pending the results of a current background check as required by State law.
