REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MAY 18, 2004
The Board of Trustees:
- Approved minutes of previous meeting.
- Heard a report from Mr. Lewis Griffin, Architect, on a district
facility study and long-range plan.
- Received the monthly financial status report.
- Authorized the District to enter into a contract with Mr. Lewis
Griffin, AIA, for architect services.
- Approved payment of accounts.
- Received the monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use
of school buses for special events.
- Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is
beyond repair: one recorder dictation system, tag #1139; one overhead
projector, tag # 2261; two computers, tag #s 2525 & 2359; one cassette
recorder, tag # 2581; one cordless phone, tag #2323; and one basketball
trainer, tag #847.
- Approved a request from Principal Raymond Powell for permission for
the Jr. Beta Club, Student Council, and cheerleaders to operate a school
store (in accordance with state regulations) at Jefferson Middle School
beginning in August 2004.
- Granted the district permission to submit a grant through Improving
Literacy Through School Libraries for grades K-3.
- Granted the CHS Boys' Basketball Team permission to travel
out-of-state to attend a Basketball Camp in Fort Walton Beach, Florida,
June 18-20, 2004, at no cost to the District.
- Approved a request for permission for the CHS cheerleaders to hold
a mini-cheer camp as a fundraiser June 14-17, 2004, in the CHS gym. The
camp will be offered to children ages three years old through 6th
grade at a cost of $25.00 per participant.
- Approved a Reading Sufficiency Plan for the 2004-2005 school year.
- Gave first approval of revisions to the District Student
Code of Conduct and Discipline Plan and school handbooks.
- Gave first approval of revisions to the following job
descriptions: principals, GBBAJA/ GBBAKA/GBBALA/GBBAMA; assistant
principals, GBBAJB/GBBAKB/GBBALB/ GBBAMB; and teachers,
GBBAJE/GBBAKE/GBBALE/GBBAME.
- Accepted a student released from Jefferson Davis County Schools as
a tuition student.
- Accepted the employment resignation of Rebecca Dillard, CES
cashier.

Approved
the following employment recommendations for the remainder of the 2003-2004
school year: Joyce Fortenberry (speech/language pathologist); Tonya Lucus and
Gail Van Fleet (CPS, K-1); Wynne Maily and Mary Price (CPS, 2-3); Gail Stephens
(CES), Angie Adams, Sophia Bickham, and Hazel Lewis, (JMS); Robert Cheatham,
Robert Knight, Rebecca Lynn McDaniel, Doug Norris, and Jami Owen (CHS); as
teachers for the 2004 extended school year/summer school program on an as
needed basis; Diane Gammill as an after school Nova Net Credit recovery
instructor at CHS; Michelle Johnson as CPS cafeteria manager; Valerie Renae
Durbin as a substitute teacher and Nelda Terry as a substitute bus driver.
- Granted Mike Bass, JMS Band Director, permission to operate a
summer band program for middle school students June 8 through June 26 from
8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
- Approved continued employment of the following personnel for the
2004-2005 school year: Kathy Bryant as a kindergarten teacher at CPS,
Christine Expose as a first grade teacher at CPS, Debbie Gray as a first
grade teacher at CPS, Angela Burkett as a teacher at JMS, Maryanne
Boutwell as a teacher at CHS, Greg Owen as a teacher at CHS, and Shirley
Porter as a SPED teacher at CHS.
- Approved the employment of Anne McCain as librarian/media
specialist at CHS.
- Reviewed FY 2005 budget development as completed to date.
- Approved the 2004-2005 Salary Handbook.
- Were informed of the end-of-the-year district-wide faculty meeting
at 7:45 a.m., Monday, May 24, 2004, in the Crystelle Ford Auditorium and
the revised budget development calendar for fiscal year 2005.
- Agreed to meet at 5:30 p.m., for the June 10, 2004, regular
monthly meeting of the School Board.
