REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, March 18, 2004

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meeting.

·        Heard a report from Mr. Marvin Adams, Technology Coordinator, on the district's Web page link for parents to monitor their child's progress.

·        Heard a report on district building projects.

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: one port switch, tag #1995; one tape player, tag # 1809; one chair, tag #1912; two printers, tag #s 2868 & 4378; one copier/printer/fax/scanner, tag #4033; two computers, tag #s 2854 & 1354; three overhead projectors, tag #s 592, 1361, & 2059; one range/oven tag  #547; one cassette recorder, tag # 3090; and one VCR, tag # 1499.

·        Accepted a cash donation from Hattiesburg Coca Cola Bottling Company for students and/or faculty recognition at Columbia High School.

·        Gave second approval of the revised district student uniform dress code effective with the 2004-2005 school year.

·        Approved requests to travel out-of-state.

·        Adopted a resolution to encourage the Mississippi Legislature to fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program including the fourth year of the Mississippi Teacher Opportunity Plan (teacher pay plan).

·        Adopted the 2004-2005 school year calendar.

·        Accepted two students released from the Jefferson Davis County School District as tuition students.

·        Granted an employee maternity leave.

·        Granted Angie Burkett, teacher at Jefferson Middle School, a sabbatical leave for the 2004-2005 school year to participate in the Mississippi School Administrator Program contingent upon the State Board of Education's approval of the district's need and the availability of state funds.

·        Approved the employment of Mrs. April Markins as a teacher assistant at CPS, 2-3 for the remainder of the 2003-2004 school year.

·        Acceptance employment resignations submitted by: Kay S. Scarborough, CPS, K-1 TA; Wayne Scarborough, JMS 8th computer discovery teacher; Linda Wright, JMS librarian; Barbara Blakeney, JMS counselor; and Barbara B. Cronan, CHS librarian; for the purpose of retirement, effective June 30, 2004; and Rebecca Peak, CPS cafeteria manager, effective May 21, 2004.

·        Accepted the resignation of Mr. Mike Wallace as a school board member.

·        Received a copy of administrative staff meeting minutes.
