REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JANUARY 18, 2005

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Reelected the following trustee officers for 2005: Mr. Gus Markins, School Board President; Mr. Billy Rawls, Vice-President; and Mr. Charles Boston, Secretary.

·        Approved minutes of previous meeting.

·        Presented certificates of recognition to Jennifer Breland, CPS, K-1 Teacher of the Year; Brandy Newman, CPS, 2-3 Teacher of the Year; and Kaye Williamson, JMS Teacher of the Year; Shelley Putnam, District Teacher of the Year/CES Teacher of the Year; and Sydney Mire, District Administrator of the Year.  Ashley Haddox, CHS Teacher of the Year, was recognized but was unable to attend the meeting. Also, Robbie White, teacher at Jefferson Middle School, was recognized for receiving national board certification but was unable to attend the meeting.

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report and budget update.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment which is beyond repair: one file cabinet, tag #121; three projectors, tag #s 204, 207, & 363; four overhead projectors, tag #s 4726, 4452, 1055, & 2298; one desk, tag #3537; one chair, tag #3538; three VCRs, tag #s 332, 4683, & 4684; one printer, tag # 3417; seven computers, tag #s 4037, 2782, 2783, 2314, 1669, 3070, & 4026;  and two CD players, tag #s 3500 & 4725.

 

·        Authorized the Jefferson Pearls Club to hold a winter ball for Jefferson Middle School students on February 11, 2005.

 

·        Gave authorization to apply for a competitive grant under Enhancing Education Through Technology.

 

·        Accepted a cash donation from the ExxonMobil Foundation for the district’s boys and girls basketball teams.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to Section C of the District’s School Board Policy Manual.

 

·        Accepted a bid from Venture Technologies for the period of July 1, 2005, through June 30, 2006, for internal wiring at Jefferson Middle School contingent upon E-Rate funding.

 

·        Was informed that bids received for Web Hosting were being reviewed and that a recommendation will be made at the February board meeting.

 

·        Approved the recommendation to expel and place one student in the district’s alternative program for the remainder of the current school year.

 

·        Accepted the employment resignation of Angela Alexander, maid at Columbia Primary School, 2-3.

 

·        Approved the employment of Vanessa Akins as a maid at Columbia Primary School (2-3) and Jessie Averett as a part-time cafeteria employee at Columbia Elementary School for the remainder of the 2004-2005 school year.

 

·        Heard a report from the Superintendent which consisted of the district hosting the District VIII 3A Basketball Tournament and the superintendent’s A-team breakfast schedule.

 

·        Authorized the district to purchase a used truck for the maintenance department.

 

·        Recognized a favorable evaluation of the Superintendent and extended her contract.
