REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JULY 16, 2009

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Heard a report from Mrs. Beth Boutwell, Gifted Education Teacher at Columbia Elementary School, on the District’s Gifted Education Program.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Adopted the FY2010 Budget.

 

·        Approved the 2009-2010 Ad Valorem tax request worksheet.

 

·        Adopted a resolution stating the District’s intent to issue interest-free qualified school construction bonds pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

 

·        Adopted a resolution to borrow Sixteenth Section principal funds to cover the cost of five (5) new school buses.

 

·        Approved the transfer of expendable earnings from Sixteenth Section Funds to the District Maintenance Fund.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Gave first approval of the job description for school psychologist.

 

·        Authorized submission of grant applications (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009: Title I Grants to Local Educational Agencies, Recovery Act; Special Education: IDEA, Part B; Preschool, Part C; and ARRA, Part B; and ARRA, Preschool).

 

·          Approved the request for permission for the Columbia High School Band to conduct its annual Band Camp on the campus of Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS     July 27 -31, 2009. 

 

·          Approved a request for permission for the JMS PTA to sell spirit cards August 17 through September 30, 2009, as a fund raiser.

 

·        Approved a request for permission to use the services of Bruckner’s Photography to take all school pictures at Columbia High School for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

·        Approved a request for permission for Columbia High School/Columbia School District staff, students, and chaperones to travel out-of-state August-December 2009 to attend the New Orleans Saints football games in New Orleans, LA.

 

·        Approved an increase in the adult breakfast price from $1.75 to $1.85.

 

·        Approved requests from district employees living out of the district for their children to attend Columbia schools for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

·        Accepted a donation in the amount of $1,000.00 from Jim Byrd to be used for furniture/equipment purchases in the food services department.

 

·        Accepted a student released from the Lamar County School District as a tuition student at Columbia High School for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

·        Gave first approval of the 2009-2010 Athletic Handbook.

 

·        Accepted the bid submitted by Moore Oil Company for transportation fuel for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Kathy Thomas, teacher at Columbia Primary School; Carla Douglas, cafeteria worker at Columbia Primary School; Dr. Jean Young, Director of Special Services; and Channah Hollander, Spanish teacher at Columbia High School.

 

·        Approved the employment of Janice Jefferson as a full-time cafeteria worker at Jefferson Middle School, Juanita May as a cafeteria worker at Columbia Primary School, and Robin Chain Gordy as a teacher at Columbia Primary School for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

·        Heard a report from the Superintendent on the 2009-2010 opening of school schedule.

 

·        Authorized the district to proceed with the application process to obtain Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification to facilitate opportunities for exchange students.
