REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, SEPTEMBER 14, 2006

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Acknowledged concerns addressed by a parent.

 

·        Gave first approval of school board policies JCBJA “Random Drug Testing” and JCBJC “Suspicion-Based Drug and Alcohol Testing”.

 

·        Heard a report on the 2006 Mississippi Statewide Accountability System results.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Authorized the district to enter into a contract with Lewis Griffin Architecture for services at Columbia Elementary School and Columbia Primary School.

 

·        Approved a transfer of funds from the District Maintenance Fund to the District Improvement Fund.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: seven (7) computers, tag #s 2340, 2341, 2342, 3188, 3395, 4527, & 2529; nine (9) VCRs, tag #s 1564, 1529, 1577, 4738, 1573, 1497, 1514, 1509, & 4364; three (3) printers, tag #s 2611, 3100 & 2271; one (1) range, tag #5026; one word processor, tag # 468; and one air conditioner, tag # 472.

 

·        Approved a request from Mr. Raymond Powell, Principal at Jefferson Middle School, for permission to use Bruckner’s School Photography for fall and spring pictures at JMS during the 2006-2007 school year.

 

·        Approved requests for permission to travel out-of-state.

 

·        Approved requests from district employees, who reside out of the district, for permission for their children to attend Columbia schools for the 2006-2007 school year: Cassandra Ford (CHS), daughter of Patsy Ford; Faith Haddox (CPS, 2-3) and Kendall Haddox (CHS), children of Regina Haddox; and Kerri Mobley (CHS) and Jonathan Mobley (JMS), children of Donna Mobley.

 

  • Requests from administrators for permission to conduct the following fund raiser activities during the 2006-2007 school year:  CPS, K-1 PTA, Fall Festival on October 26, 2006; CPS, 2-3 PTA, S’Kool Smatz (Catalog Sale), September 29 – October 17, 2006; and Sell World’s Finest Chocolate, January 26 – February 12, 2007; CES PTA, Sell World’s Finest Chocolate, September 15 – 29, 2006, and Kathryn Beich (candy sale), March 5-22, 2007; JMS Band, Sell Cookie Dough, November 1-10, 2006; JMS Student Council, Back to School Dance, September 15, 2006; and Powder Puff Football Games, November 2, 2006; and CHS Baseball Team, Sell Coke Products, September 15 – October 3, 2006.

 

·        Approved the FY 2006 final amended budget.

 

·        Approved the expenditure of District Improvement Funds to purchase the following items: Six (6) computers for the JMS Computer Lab, Fast ForWord software for Columbia High School, Education Logistics, Inc. Pupil Transportation Software, and JBHM Education Group services for science support for Columbia Elementary School (grade 5) and Jefferson Middle School (grade 8) and language arts/reading services for Jefferson Middle School (grades 6-8).

 

·        Authorized the district to enter into an agreement with Education Logistics, Inc. for service, license, and maintenance for pupil transportation software programs.

 

·        Authorized the District to advertise for bids for a new baseball scoreboard to replace the scoreboard which was damaged during Hurricane Katrina.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Kensley L. Waller, teacher assistant at Columbia Elementary School; Rose Alexander, Day Treatment teacher at Jefferson Middle School; and Edward Corker as boys’ junior high basketball coach.

 

·        Granted the District authorization to submit an application for a one-year highly qualified teacher license for Mrs. Bridgett Cox as a fourth grade teacher at Columbia Elementary School for the 2006-2007 school year.

 

·        Approved the employment of Bonita Roberts as a physical education teacher assistant at Columbia Elementary School, Cynthia Reed as a fifth grade teacher assistant at Columbia Elementary School; Otho Jay Seals as a substitute bus driver; Kellie Watts as a substitute teacher; Kenneth Lumpkins as the 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball coach; Tracy Winton as the after-school detention monitor at Columbia High School; Cicily Toney, Lesha Abram, Angela Jefferson, Donna Martin, and Sandra Creel as substitute cafeteria workers; Linda Lewis as a full-time cafeteria worker at Columbia Primary School; Bridgett Cox as a fourth grade teacher at Columbia Elementary School pending certification; and Evie Walley as the FastWord lab assistant at Columbia Primary School, 2-3.

 

·        Amended the 2006-2007 Salary Handbook changing the rate of pay for after-school detention monitor.

 

·        Received a copy of State Board Policy on interventions for three tier model of instruction and administrative staff meeting minutes.
