REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, SEPTEMBER 14, 2000, AND SPECIAL MEETING OF AUGUST 31, 2000
The Board of Trustees:
- Amended minutes of the special meeting of August 3, 2000.
- Approved minutes of previous meetings.
- Heard a report from Mr. Chad Hunter, Architect, on district building projects.
- Approved Change Order #3 to the Columbia High School Cafeteria Expansion/Renovations Project to change out a 10 ton condensing unit on the auditorium building.
- Approved Change Order #4 to the Columbia High School Renovations and Addition Project adding steps and a sidewalk to the new gym and to pave the area between the high school and cafeteria.
- Transferred interest earnings in the amount of $15,608.81 from Sixteenth Section Funds to the District Maintenance Fund.
- Approved the Claims Docket for payment of accounts.
- Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.
- Approved requests from district employees for their children to attend district schools: Ashley Boone (CPS, K-1), Kaelin (CPS, 2-3) & Nathaniel Putnam (CPS, K-1), Donovan Sartin (CES) and Andrew Simmons (CHS).
- Approved the discard of old and unusable equipment: calculators, tag #s 1740, 2186, & 1744; cordless phone, tag # 1741; standing fans, tag #s 1743 & 1709; printers, tag #s 1820, 2245, 2247, 18, & 2897; video display adapter, tag # 1199; computers, tag #s 2892, 29, 46, 692 & 693; disk drive, tag # 45; typewriter, tag # 228; Netgear switch, tag # 1957; tape backup, tag # 1423; computer terminals, tag #s 1715 & 165; computers, tag #s 2487 & 2594; mixer, tag # 992; food chopper, tag # 833; TV/VCR, tag #s 3230/153841, 3228/153839, & 3232/153843; computers, tag #s 3199, 3215/153826, 3216/153827, 3222/153833, 3219/153830, 3218/153829, & 141403; scanners, tag #s 3248/153859, & 2502; exercise bike, tag # 3253/153864; and Scan Maker II, tag # 151072.
- Granted permission to conduct fundraisers from the CHS Show Choir Booster Club (sell peanuts at home games, sell "Columbia Wildcat" car flags and yard signs, and a car wash during the October Flea Market), CPS, 2-3 PTA (catalog sale and candy sale), JMS PTA (candy sale), CPS, K-1 PTA (candy sale and catalog sale), and CES PTA (candy sales).
- Granted permission for out-of-state travel.
- Approved an increase in the cost of admission to high school football games from $4.00 to $5.00.
- Accepted proposals from Bruckner's Photography for senior portraits and school day pictures for the 2000-01 school year.
- Authorized the Superintendent to submit a Mississippi Medicaid Enrollment Application.
- Approved amendments to the FY01 Budget.
- Placed three students in the District's Alternative Program.
- Accepted employment resignations from Angela Pittman, TA at CPS, K-1, Bonita Robbins, cashier at JMS and Heath Cook, janitor at CPS, K-1.
- Approved the employment of Lisa McNease as TA at CPS, K-1, Clayton C. Jones as a janitor at CHS, Regina L. Maxwell as a part-time maid at CHS, R. L. Conerly as a bus driver, and the addition of Anne Schumacher, Kathryn Houston, Jauna Royston, Lisa Williamson, Debbie Rowell, Donna McKenzie, Mary L. Herrington and Sandra Thomas to the substitute teacher list for the 2000-2001 school year.
- Approved a request to submit an application for emergency certification for a district employee.
- Adopted a resolution to the Mississippi State Legislature to Adequately Fund and Monitor the State Employee Insurance Program.
- Was informed of the Mississippi Institute for School Safety Legal Workshops, the District's Test Security Plan, and minutes of administrative staff meetings.
- Received the monthly financial status report.
- Discussed a confidential matter in executive session.
- Authorized the District to purchase property located at 703 Bryan Avenue.
