REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, NOVEMBER 14, 2002

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Heard a report from Dr. Thomas Blakeney on district building projects.

 

·        Was informed of an increase of cost for the district's liability and property insurance coverage.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Accepted a grant from the Exxon Educational Foundation in the amount of $500.00 to buy "Hooked on Phonics" reading program for sixth grade special education students.

 

·        Accepted cash donation from the JMS PTA in the amount of $500.00 to help defray the cost of purchasing basketball uniforms and shoes for the junior high boy's and girl's basketball teams.

 

·        Granted the Jefferson Pearls permission to sell candy canes for their December project.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: two VCRs, tag #s 1435 & 4041; two external modems, tag #s 2915 & 2916; two computers, tag #s 1186 & 1406; one fax machine, tag #2665; one chair, tag #2031; one monitor, tag #3785; one megaphone, tag #2802; one television, tag #1475; and one printer, tag #1462.

 

·        Approved a request to travel out-of-state.

 

·        Gave second approval of revised Crisis/Safety Response Team Manual.

 

·        Approved a recommendation that no changes be made in the district's insurance and fringe benefits program and that the IRS Section 125 Plan be continued for 2003.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to district policy JCDAC "Alcohol and Drug Use".

 

·        Approved a recommendation to expel two students out-of-school for the remainder of the 2002-2003 school year.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Misti Broom, teacher assistant at CPS, K-1, and Joyce Vasilion, teacher assistant at CPS, 2-3.

 

·        Approved the employment of Anne B. McCain as a librarian at Columbia Elementary School; Melanie Bass and Pamela Blanchard as substitute teachers; and Donna Stringer, Jessica Jefferson, and Lou Ezelle as substitute cafeteria workers for the remainder of the 2002-2003 school year pending the results of a current background check as required by State law.

 

·        Was informed that the district received grants for funding technology enhancement at Jefferson Middle School and Columbia High School.

 

·        Received a copy of the final report of the Grand Jury and minutes of administrative staff meetings.

 

·        Rescheduled the regular meeting of the board on December 12 to Monday, December 9, 2002.

 

·        Approved an increase in the cost of tickets from $3.00 to $4.00 for the following athletic events: junior high football, junior high basketball, high school basketball, baseball, slow pitch softball, and fast pitch softball.
