REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MARCH 14, 2006

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        School board member, Mrs. Marie Shepard, took an oath of office.

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Was informed of FY 2007 budget development.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: six printers, tag #s 5244, 4580, 3821, 3080, 2816, & 772; two computers, tag #2050 & 773; one standard coracle, tag #4653; one sander, tag #613; one spray painter, tag #619; and one deep fryer, tag #764.

 

·        Granted Ms. Regina Allen permission to submit a S.A. Rosenbaum Earthwatch Fellowship Application.

 

·        Approved the following fund raising activities: Columbia Primary School (K-1) PTA to sell cookie dough during the month of March; Jefferson Middle School PTA to sell memory books; and Columbia High School Student Council to hold a talent show on April 21, 2006.

 

·        Approved an addendum to the 2005-2006 District Test Security Plan which addresses procedures relating to changes in the packaging of the MCT Level 12 and Level 13 test books and the revised Spring 2006 Test Administration Dates due to Hurricane Katrina.

 

·        Gave first approval of the proposed District Wellness Policy and revisions to the Computer Network Acceptable Use Policy (IFBDAA).

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to the CHS Varsity Cheerleader Constitution.

 

·        Granted permission for the Columbia High School special education program to use “Steppin’ Out”, a store based program designed by the CHS special education department to market and sale baked items to the school and community.  This is part of the Occupational Diploma and Certificate Diploma curriculum as set forth by the Mississippi Department of Education.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Marcus Wood, head football coach/teacher; Joe Beets, maintenance supervisor, for the purpose of retirement effective at the end of the 2005-2006 school year; and Dale Worrell, teacher at Columbia High School.

 

·        Approved the employment of Doug Norris as head football/weight coach; Edward Corker as a bookkeeper for district basketball games; George M. Cunningham, Terrance Jackson, Jacquelyn Jackson-Quinn, Bonita Graham, Donna Martin, Dorothy Myers, Chassidy Sullivan, Rena Toney, and Penny Wood as substitute teachers; and Liletha Griffin Penry as a substitute maid at Columbia Primary School (2-3) for the remainder of the 2005-2006 school year.

 

·        Agreed to meet at 5:30 p.m., April 13, 2005, for its regular monthly meeting.

 

·        Discussed confidential legal matters in executive session.
