REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, DECEMBER 14, 2006

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

·        Recognized 2007 Teachers of the Year; Mrs. Gail Curtis (Columbia Primary School, K-1), Mrs. Kathy Thomas (Columbia Primary School, 2-3), Mrs. Candace Browning (Columbia Elementary School), Mr. Robbie White (Jefferson Middle School), Ms. Ashley Watkins (Columbia High School) and announced the 2007 District Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Candace Browning.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: four printers, tag #s 4804, 1176, 3031, & 153895; five computers, tag #s 1177, CU7, 3084, 3081, & 3715; one shredder, tag #4876; one digital camera, tag #153860; one laser disk, tag #2257; and one television, tag #1879.

 

·        Approved a request for permission for the Columbia High School fast-pitch softball team to hold a mini-softball camp for girls in grades 3 through 8 and to sell barbeque plates on February 10, 2007, as a fund raiser.

 

·        Granted the CHS Band permission to travel out-of-state to participate in the Smoky Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, TN, May 9-13, 2007.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to School Board Policy DFK “Donations and/or Contributions”.

 

·        Accepted the one and only bid received for three school buses and declared one school bus (fixed asset #699) and one 1986 Chevrolet truck (fixed asset #626) as surplus property and authorized the district to dispose of the vehicles.

 

·        Rejected all bids received for a District IP Video Surveillance System and authorized the district to re-advertise.

 

·        Certified that sufficient funds will be budgeted to cover the district’s portion of the services and equipment received from E-rate funds for FY 2008.

 

·        Granted authorization to advertise for bid ISP services for a period of two years from July 1, 2007June 30, 2009 in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Schools and Libraries Division for the Universal Services Program/E-Rate.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Carolyn Wascomb, central offices custodian; Michelle Robbins, cashier at JMS; Robin Murphy, teacher assistant at CPS (K-1); Diane Schepemaker, cafeteria worker at CHS; Claude Haynes, maintenance worker, for the purpose of retirement; Gail Stephens, special education teacher at CES, for the purpose of retirement; Jennifer Watts, teacher at JMS; and Earnest Ryals, bus driver.

 

·        Approved the employment of the following persons for the remainder of the 2006-2007 school year pending the results of a current background check as required by State law: Greg Owen, Greg Ellzey, Scott Fitzgerald, Rob Knight, Ryan Stringer, Robert Cheatham, Maggie Webber, and Terrance Jackson as basketball clock operators and bookkeepers for the 2006-2007 basketball season; Patrinella Moses as a teacher assistant for the Day Treatment class at JMS; Barbara Tadley as central offices custodian; Donna Martin as a full-time cashier at Jefferson Middle School; Sherry Spencer as a full-time cafeteria worker at Columbia High School; Linda Williamson as a part-time cafeteria worker at Columbia High School; Debbie Lamison as a teacher assistant at Columbia Primary School (K-1); Stephanie Hughes as a teacher at Jefferson Middle School; Delma Charles Hendricks, Jr. as a special education teacher at Jefferson Middle School; and Bethany Parker as a teacher at Jefferson Middle School.

 

·        Discussed a student discipline matter in executive session.

 

·        Approved the recommendation to expel a student.

 

·        Heard a report from the superintendent which included MSBA board development and receipt of a donation of school supplies from the Pennsylvania Jaycees.
