The Board of Trustees:

Approved
minutes of previous meeting.
· Presented a plaque to Mr. Richard Foxworth in recognition of his years of service to the District as School Board Attorney.
· Acknowledged annual reports from administrators.
· Was informed of results of the Mississippi Assessment Program for 2002-2003.
· Heard a report on student enrollment.

Received
the monthly financial status report.
·
Heard
a report on district building projects.
·
Accepted
the lowest and best bid received from C. Perry Builders, Inc. for the
construction of a new bus shop.

Approved
the transfer of FY 2003 interest earnings from Sixteenth Section Funds to the
District Maintenance Fund.

Approved
the claims docket for payment of accounts.
·
Acknowledged
the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school
buses for special events.

Accepted
a grant in the amount of $550.00 from the Mississippi Power Education
Foundation.
·
Approved
requests for permission to travel out-of-state.
·
Approved
requests from employees, living out of the district, for their children to
attend district schools: Kylie Davis (CHS), guardian Thomas H. Blakeney; Shane
Barnes (CHS), son of Jacqueline Ratliff; Sarah E. Cook (CPS, K-1), daughter of
April Cook; Vicki Smith (JMS) and Dustin McNeff (CPS, 2-3), children of Chasity
McNeff; Rachael Wesley (CPS, K-1)
and John Taylor Wesley (CPS, 2-3), children of Valerie Wesley; Roderick Frelix
(CHS) and Teresa Watts (JMS), children of Sophia Bickham; and Kayla Fortenberry
(CHS), daughter of Rachel Fortenberry.

a request to remove from the fixed asset inventory equipment that is a
permanent part of the school building or has been incorporated into another
piece of equipment.

requests from administrators/supervisors to dispose of the following equipment
that is beyond repair: one food warming cabinet, tag #430; one duplicator, tag
#917; two computers, tag #s 1477 & 2805; two printers, tag #s 1479 &
2468; one postage scale, tag #1419; one check writer, tag #171; and eighteen
cell phones, tag #s 1787, 1788, 1789, 1851, 1886, 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895, 1896,
1897, 1898, 1899, 1900, 1901, 1902, 1903, & 1904; one check signer, tag
#230.

Approved
requests for permission to conduct fundraisers: CHS Football Team to sell
Discount Spirit Cards, August 15-22, 2003; JMS PTA to sell Spirit Cards,
October 1-31, 2003; JMS Band to sell World's Finest Chocolate, November 1-30,
2003, and Community Discount Cards, April 1-30, 2004; JMS Cheerleaders to
sponsor a Sadie Hawkins Dance, October 17, 2003; CHS Dance Team, "The
Jazz Catz", to set up a Spirit Booth at athletic events to sell
Wildcat paraphernalia such as pom-poms, removable tattoos, seat cushions,
window decals, car flags, spirit ribbons, etc.; AF JROTC class at CHS to sell
holiday gift items from Great American Opportunities. Inc. (catalog), November
3-13, 2003 and CHS to hold competition between each grade (9th-12th)…each
class will collect quarters through homecoming week (September 22-26, 2003).

Accepted
a proposal from Mississippi School Pictures for all school pictures at Columbia
Primary School, 2-3, during the 2003-2004 school year.
·
Granted
the CES 4th and 5th grade Challenge class permission to
travel out-of-state to Hammond, LA on November 13, 2003, to attend the
Renaissance Festival.
·
Approved
the 2003-2004 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) game fees
for officials.
·
Accepted
a cash donation in the amount of $719.59 from Hattiesburg Coca Cola Bottling
Company for student honors/activities at Columbia High School.
·
Granted
permission to purchase Edusoft software and training which is a sole source
item.
·
Approved
the amended FY 2004 Ad Valorem Tax Request Worksheet.
·
Approved
amendments to the FY 2004 budget.
·
Accepted
employment resignations submitted by Jerri Forbes and Linda Young, bus drivers,
and Ola Mae Peters Ard, maid at CPS, 2-3.
·
Approved
the employment of the following persons for the 2003-2004 school year pending
the results of a current background check as required by State law: April
Payton as a student technology worker; Stephanie Ponzo as a special education
teacher assistant in the preschool program at CPS, K-1; Calvin Newsome as a
substitute bus driver and as a Para-professional for the following sports: 8th
grade football assistant, 8th grade basketball head coach (boys and
girls), and high school basketball assistant (boys); Jeremy Tio Nunn as a
math/business education teacher at CHS; Latta Price Herring as a biology
teacher at CHS pending licensure renewal; Angela C. Alexander as a maid at CPS,
2-3; Michelle Johnson as a part-time cafeteria worker at CES, and Andrew Berg,
Shelly Blackard, Andrea Breland, Rose Bullock, Twila Cook, Donna Dillon,
Lakisha Dillon, Shanna Franklin, Tiffanee Franklin, John Kipsinis, Harry Magee,
II, Boothe Miller, Charles R. Murphree, Jami Owen, Angie Pittman, Faith
Pittman, Rachel Robbins, Edward Ruffin, Sr., Edward Ruffin, Jr., Gail VanFleet,
Jeffery Virgil, Margaret Walker, and Cindy Welch as substitute teachers.
