REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, OCTOBER 13, 2005

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

  • Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

  • Approved a Memo of Understanding between ReachOut Healthcare America and Columbia School District for mobile dental services.

 

·        Acknowledged annual reports from principals.

 

·        Reviewed the district’s final 2005 Mississippi Statewide Accountability System results.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report and heard a report on district facilities.

 

  • Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

  • Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: seven computers, tag #s 3657, 2365, 2601, 4369, 574, 1817, & 3187; one overhead projector, tag #2302; three printers, tag #s 2600, 4617 & 2687; one file cabinet, tag #1087; one projector cart, tag #3156; two chairs, tag #s 4682 & 4069; one two-way radio, tag #3809; two VCRs, tag    #s 520 & 2804; one desk, tag #514; one set of monkey bars, tag #1336; one climber, tag #1334; one computer monitor, tag #2218; one computer tower, tag #2216; one computer hub, tag #1670; and one barcode scanner, tag #4972.

 

  • Gave approval to remove the following items which were reported stolen during Hurricane Katrina from the Jefferson Middle School fixed asset inventory: two speaking dictionaries, tag #s 4640 and 4641; one reading pen, tag #4400; and one calculator, tag #4381.

 

  • Approved requests for fund-raiser activities: Columbia Baseball Team to conduct a Coke Sale November18-December 9, 2005; Columbia Basketball Booster Club to sell advertising signs for the gym to businesses and to conduct a Little Wildcat Basketball League for district students in grades 3-6 December 3-17, 2005, and to continue on January 7-29, 2006; and Jefferson Middle School Junior Beta Club to sell wildcat wristbands.

 

  • Approved a request from Mrs. Glenda Shivers, Principal at Columbia Primary School (K-1), for permission for Life Touch School Photography to make fall and spring pictures at CPS, K-1 and Remember Me Publishing Company to print a K-1 Yearbook for the 2005-2006 school year.

 

  • Authorized the district to apply for a John D. Bower, M.D. School Health Network Grant to implement the Coordinated School Health Program Model in the Columbia schools.

 

  • Authorized the district to apply for a grant under Title VI of the No Child Left Behind Act.

 

  • Approved requests for permission to travel out-of-state.

 

  • Authorized the district to submit a plan to the State Department of Education for missed school days due to Hurricane Katrina.

 

  • Approved renewal of the district’s property and liability insurance coverage with Zurich.

 

  • Gave first approval of revisions to Section F (Facility Expansion Program) and Section K (General Public Relations) of the District School Board Policy Manual.

 

  • Accepted the employment resignation of Annie Alexander, bus driver.

 

  • Granted an employee a leave of absence for the remainder of the 2005-2006 school year.

 

  • Approved the employment of the following persons for the remainder of the 2005-2006 school year:

o       Teresa Merwin as Technology Discovery teacher at Columbia High School;

o       Darlene Crumedy as a 10-month custodian at Columbia High School;

o       Jennifer Branch as Student Council Sponsor at Columbia High School;

o       Jerri Forbes as a full time bus driver;

o       Pam Blanden as a substitute bus driver;

o       Betty Turner, Yolanda Moses, Theresa B. Johnson, Camille Yawn, Sabrina Pace, Gina Broom, and Candy Graham as substitute cafeteria workers; and

o       Brenda Shields as assistant girls’ basketball coach.

 

  • Amended the District’s Salary Handbook to include an hourly rate for classified employees who are in coaching positions.

 

  • Expelled a student out-of-school.

 

  • Was informed of Meet the Wildcats in the CHS Gym, November 1, 2005, at 5:00 p.m.
