REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MARCH 13, 2008

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        School board member, Dr. Ronald Luethje, took an oath of office.

 

·        Elected Mrs. Marie Shepard as School Board President.

 

·        Recognized Mr. Loren Monk, 2008 Administrator of the Year; Mrs. Elizabeth Morris, 2008 Parent of the Year; and Coach Tony Woody and the Columbia High School Basketball Team, 2008 Boys South State 3A Champions.

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Heard a report on FY 2009 budget development.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Gave second approval of revisions to School Board Policy “JCE” Dress Code which changes school spirit days from the second and fourth Fridays of each month to designation is at the discretion of the building principal.

 

·        Approved a request to dispose of one computer, tag #2898, which is beyond repair.

 

·        Accepted a donation from Hattiesburg Clinic in the amount of $500.00 to offset the cost of the Boys South State Basketball Tournament.

 

·        Approved a request for permission to travel out-of-state.

 

·        Approved a request for permission for the Columbia Elementary School PTA to sell cookie dough as a fund raiser.

 

·        Authorized acceptance of the lowest quote received for the purchase of a tractor and loader (MF1533L) from Watts Brothers of Columbia.

 

·        Approved the recommendation to accept a quote received from Charles L. Shivers, CPA, for audit services for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007.

 

·        Tabled a recommendation to renovate the district’s network system.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to school board policies “GBN” Suspension, Removal, and Non-Renewal of Employment of Certified Personnel, “JAA” Equal Educational Opportunities, and “JC” Code of Conduct.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to the job description for Director of Special Services.

 

·        Accepted the employment resignation of Robert Cheatham, teacher/coach at Columbia High School, for the purpose of retirement.

 

·        Approved the employment of Angela Hahn as a substitute teacher and Steve Broom as a substitute custodian for the remainder of the 2007-2008 school year.

 

·        Heard a report from the Superintendent which included advertising for bid the installation of a video surveillance system; the Columbia High School Award Celebration scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2008; calendar of district events; and a thank you note received from Amy Eldridge, CPS Teacher of the Year.

 

·        Received a copy of administrative staff meeting minutes.
