REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, FEBRUARY 13, 2003
The Board of Trustees:
· Received certificates and gifts of appreciation in celebration of School Board Member Recognition Week in Mississippi February 16-22, 2003.
· Approved minutes of previous meetings.
· Received the monthly financial status report.
· Viewed preliminary drawings, as presented by Architect Randy McCaffrey, for additional classrooms at Columbia Primary School and a new bus shop.
· Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.
· Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.
· Approved requests to dispose of the following unusable equipment which is beyond repair: four printers, tag #s 3987, 2809, 0575, & 1021; one typewriter, tag #832; one computer, tag #1022; one steamer, tag #760; three lawn mowers, tag #s 616, 617, & 2410.
· Approved requests to travel out-of-state.
· Approved requests from principals for permission to conduct the following fund raisers: JMS Pearls to sponsor a Sweetheart Ball on Saturday, February 22, 2003, CPS (K-1) PTA to sell Classic Cookie ready-to-bake cookie dough, and the CHS Journalism class to sell its school newspapers to the faculty, staff, and students for $.50 per copy which will go towards funds needed to help produce the CoHiAn.
· Accepted a cash donation in the amount of $876.00 from the Hattiesburg Coca Cola Bottling Company for Columbia High School students' awards.
· Ratified board action granting the Columbia High School Entrepreneur Skills class permission to travel out-of-state to attend the Jewelry Market in New Orleans, LA on February 3, 2003.
· Gave first approval to revise district policy IHF "Graduation Requirements" to meet current graduation requirements and recognize honor graduates.
· Adopted the 2003-2004 school year calendar.
· Adopted timelines for development of the fiscal year 2004 Budget.
· Discussed confidential legal and personnel matters in executive session.
· Accepted employment resignations submitted by Mr. Joey Porter, teacher/transportation director, for the purpose of retirement; and Mr. Steve Harmon as CHS coach.
· Approved the employment of following persons for the remainder of the 2002-2003 school year: Mr. Steve Harmon as transportation director; Mr. Patrick McShea as a math teacher for two classes per day at Columbia High School; Ms. Ashley Copeland, CHS teacher, to conduct after school Nova Net credit recovery; Mr. Tracy Winton, CHS teacher, to conduct after school detention; Mrs. Brenda Leuthje, Ms. Kathryn McWhorter, Mr. David Quinn, and Mr. Hall Roberts, as substitute teachers; Ms. Cathy Woodson, Ms. Rebecca Creel, and Ms. Rachel Robbins as substitute cafeteria workers.
· Granted an employee maternity leave.
