REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, APRIL 13, 2006

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Heard a report from Mr. Wib Wright, District Auditor, on the FY2005 audit.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Gave second approval of the District Wellness Policy and revisions to the Computer Network Acceptable Use Policy (IFBDAA).

 

·        Gave second approval of revisions to the CHS Varsity Cheerleader Constitution.

 

·        Accepted a donation from the Columbia High School Dugout Club in the amount of $3,055.00 for the purchase of a baseball field cover.

 

·        Granted Mrs. Cathy Creel, Director of Curriculum/Instruction/Testing, approval to travel out-of-state to attend a Scientific Learning Conference in Savannah, GA at no cost to the district.

 

·        Approved a request to dispose of one refrigerator, tag #998, which is beyond repair.

 

·        Granted the District authorization to submit a SPED Extended School Year project application.

 

·        Accepted a proposal from Lifetouch National School Studios, Inc. to take class pictures/spring pictures at Columbia Elementary School on April 20-21, 2006.

 

·        Granted a district employee, who resides out of the district, permission for her children to attend Columbia schools for the 2005-2006 school year.

 

·        Approved a request for permission for the Columbia High School Basketball Booster Club to host a Basketball Summer League on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 30 through June 29, 2006.

 

·        Approved a request for permission for Ms. Beth Pierce and her French II and AP French students to travel out-of-state to Vermilionville, LA on May 17, 2006, to tour a Cajun Village, with cooking demonstrations, craft making, and historical interpretations, all in French.

 

·        Approved Trustmark National Bank as depository of district funds July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2009.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to school board policy, JCE-Dress Code, and job descriptions GBBABE, Food Service Secretary/Bookkeeper; GBBAHA, Food Service Manager; GBBAHC, Food Service Cashier; and GBBAHB, Food Service Worker.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to the Student Code of Conduct & Discipline Plan and student/parent handbooks for the 2006-2007 school year.

 

·        Granted the District authorization to initiate procedures to purchase five (5) new school buses.

 

·        Approved an increase in the hourly rate for activity trip bus drivers from $6.00 to $8.00, effective February 11, 2006.

 

·        Approved the FY 2007 salary schedule for certified employees.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Vanessa E. Akins as a custodian at Columbia Primary School (2-3), effective March 17, 2006; Amanda Bennette as a teacher assistant for the severe and profound classroom at Jefferson Middle School, effective March 31, 2006; Billy Royston as an alternative education teacher/coach at Columbia High School, effective April 7, 2006; Kathryn Parker as a math teacher at Columbia High School, Sarah Burkett as a music teacher at Columbia Elementary and Columbia Primary School, and Angela May as a teacher assistant at Columbia Primary School (2-3), effective at the end of the current school year; and Tommie May as a first grade teacher, Barbara Davis as a fifth grade teacher, Brenda Haynes as a fourth grade teacher, Shirley Graves as special education teacher at Jefferson Middle School, Janet Hitt as a sixth grade math teacher, Martha Lee as an eighth grade English teacher, Kaye Williamson as a sixth grade social studies teacher, and Jeanie Polk as a teacher assistant at Columbia Primary School (2-3) for the purpose of retirement effective at the end of the current school year.

 

·        Approved the employment of Shannon Tucker as an alternative education teacher at Columbia High School, James Christopher Turnage as an after-school tutor for Columbia High School, Kim Gibson as a teacher assistant for the severe and profound classroom at Jefferson Middle School, Priscilla Watts as a substitute mechanic, Andra Penry as a custodian at Columbia Primary School (2-3), and Deborah Broom as a cafeteria substitute for the remainder of the current school year.

 

·        Approved the employment of Tammy Smith, music teacher at Columbia Primary School, to conduct a summer music camp for second and third graders June 5-9, 2006.

 

·        Approved certified personnel recommendations for the 2006-2007 school year.

 

·        Heard a report from the Superintendent which included property for sale adjacent to Columbia Elementary School and Columbia Primary School, head start classes at Columbia Primary School, and submission of an elementary and secondary school counseling grant.

 

·        Discussed confidential legal matters in executive session.
