REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JULY 12, 2007

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Heard concerns regarding the Columbia High School Musical.

 

·        Adopted the FY 2008 Budget.

 

·        Approved the transfer of interest earnings from Sixteenth Section Funds to the District Maintenance Fund.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: printers, tag #s 3432, 3823, 3030, 1176, 3479, 3031, 1178, & 4803; computers, tag #s 4403, 4609, 2577, 1177, & 770; desk, tag #218; document server, tag #3818; television, tag #4654; cabinet, tag # 868; audiometer, tag #2053; freezer, tag #885; air filter, tag #774; overhead projector, tag #3435; and router, tag #1660.

 

·           Approved a request to destroy the following special education records: federal projects  through the 2001-2002 school year, correspondence and general files prior to 2002, records on former students who were ineligible for special education, records on former students who are deceased, and records on former students who were eligible or ineligible for the gifted program (retained for five inactive years).

 

·           Approved requests for permission to travel out-of-state.

 

·        Approved requests from district employees living out of the district for their children to attend Columbia schools for the 2007-2008 school year.                

 

·        Accepted a cash donation from Hattiesburg Coca Cola Bottling Company in the amount of $15,000.00 to be used toward the purchase of the new football scoreboard.

 

·        Accepted students released from Jefferson Davis County School District as tuition students for the 2007-2008 school year.

 

·        Authorized the expenditure of district improvement funds toward the purchase of the new football scoreboard.

 

·        Accepted the bid submitted by Buffalo Services, Inc. for transportation fuel for the 2007-2008 school year.

 

·        Gave first approval of Teacher Support Team/Intervention Strategist and Instructional Technology Strategist job descriptions.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to Sections A (Organization), B (School Board Operations), C (General School Administration), and D (Fiscal Management) of the District School Board Policy Manual.

 

·        Approved the recommendation to continue to provide school psychology services through the University of Southern Mississippi for the 2007-2008 school year.

 

·        Approved the cooperative agreement between the Columbia School District and Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources for the 2007-2008 school year.

 

·        Authorized the purchase of EZ test data scanners and software from Educational Materials Specialist, Inc., the sole source distributor.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Shirley Porter as a special education teacher at Columbia High School, and Nena White as Student Council sponsor at Jefferson Middle School.

 

·        Approved the employment of the following persons for the 2007-2008 school year: Donna Bass as a teacher/flag guard coach at Columbia High School; Anthony Woody as a teacher/coach at Columbia High School; Marshall Wall as a seventh grade reading teacher at Jefferson Middle School; Dana Phillips as a third grade teacher at Columbia Primary School; Kenneth Lumpkins as assistant boys basketball, 8th grade boys basketball, and 8th grade assistant football coach; Edward Corker as 8th grade girls basketball coach; T.J. Jackson as a CHS assistant football coach; Brenda Shields as assistant girls basketball coach; Darren Smith as 8th grade assistant football and 9th grade assistant football coach; Carol Davis, Wanda B. Powell, Jeanetta Burrell, Brandy Sorrell; Michelle Johnson, and Elizabeth Waters as teacher assistants at Columbia Primary School; Annette Taylor as a custodian at Columbia Primary School; Angela Jefferson as a custodian for the central office and central office annex; Lela Cox and Sophia Bickham as student council co-sponsors at Jefferson Middle School; Rena Toney as a special education teacher assistant at Jefferson Middle School; Shelly Segalini as Teacher Support Team/Interventions Strategist; Kim Stringer as Instructional Technology Strategist; Sheila Edler as a special education teacher at Columbia Elementary School; Andrea Brown as the Day Treatment teacher at Columbia Elementary School; Julia Long as a fourth grade teacher at Columbia Elementary School; Renee Riley as a fifth grade teacher at Columbia Elementary School; Malia McCarthy as a special education teacher at Jefferson Middle School; William Frazier as band director at Jefferson Middle School and assistant band director at Columbia High School; Janette Pigott as a special education teacher at Columbia High School; Dameshia Reese as an English teacher/Jazz Catz Sponsor at Columbia High School; William Thompson as a part-time assistant band director at Columbia High School; and Alan Fortenberry as a twelve-month custodian at Columbia High School.

 

·        Heard a report from the Superintendent that included Mississippi Ethics Commission Statement of Economic Interest; School Board Training; Austin Fountain, a student at Columbia Primary School, was named a national handwriting champion; and the City settlement. 

 

·        Discussed confidential legal matters in executive session.
