the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school
buses for special events.

requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: one VCR,
tag #122; four cell phones, tag #s 1887, 2459, 2641, & 3026; nineteen
computers, tag #s 1943, 1944, 1997, 2369, 1996, 2004, 1937, 1945, 1973, 2373,
2396, 2375, 2394, 2360, 2374, 1938, 2522, 2531, & 1056; three printers, tag
#s 1291, 1205, & 3419; one chair, tag #181; and one overhead projector, tag
# 1059.

Approved
requests to conduct the following fundraisers: CES PTA - candy sales, one
during the fall of 2003 and one in the spring of 2004, and CPS, K-1 PTA - Fall
Festival, October 21, 2003, and sell cookie dough in the spring.

Accepted
a proposal from Bruckner's Photography for school pictures at Columbia Primary
School, K-1.
·
Granted
permission for the JMS 6th grade Challenge students to travel
out-of-state to attend Space Camp in Huntsville, AL, April 30 - May 2, 2004;
and the 7th & 8th grade Challenge students and Junior
Beta Club students to travel out-of-state to visit Washington, D.C., May 31 - June 6, 2004.

Approved
requests to travel out-of-state to attend conferences.

Accepted
cash donations from Winn Dixie Corporation in the amount $607.68 for Columbia
High School, $501.12 for Columbia Elementary School, and $734.81 for Jefferson
Middle School.

Approved
the recommendation to declare the 1,000 gallon propane tank at the bus shop as
surplus property and granted authorization to advertise for sale by sealed
bids.
·
Accepted
a bid from Mack Grubbs Motors for the purchase of a pickup truck for the
transportation department.
·
Adopted
resolutions to borrow Sixteenth Section Principal Funds to purchase new school
buses, bus camera, pickup truck, Broad Street property, and to build a new bus
shop.
·
Granted
an employee maternity leave.
·
Accepted
the resignation of Olivia D. Reese as music teacher/choral director at CHS and
JMS.
·
Approved
the employment of the following persons for the 2003-2004 school year: Antonio
Demetric Cooley as music teacher/choral director at CHS and JMS, Christopher
McFarland as a part-time cafeteria worker, Baxter White, Jr. as bus driver
trainer, Ashley Haddox as Beta Club Sponsor at CHS, Tracy Winton to supervise
after-school detention at CHS, Deborah Thomas to supervise in-school detention
at CHS, Janet Weiskopf to conduct psychometric testing, Kimberly Jane Stewart
as a special education teacher assistant at CPS, K-1, and Donna Martin, Warren
Selman, Colonel Richard Davis, Sergeant Ralph Waller, M.L. Pittman, Maggie
Webber, and Blair Powers as substitute bus drivers.

Rescheduled
the regular November school board meeting from November 13 to November 6, 2003.
·
Received
a schedule of MSBA annual events for board development and a copy of minutes of
administrative staff meetings.
