REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MAY 11, 2006

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meeting as amended.

 

·        Discussed a confidential student matter in executive session.

 

·        Approved the recommendation to expel a Columbia High School student.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Approved a transfer from District Maintenance Funds to the District Improvements Fund.

 

·        Approved payment of accounts.

 

·        Received the monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: one coffee maker, tag #47; one utility cart, tag #1757; two computers, tag #s 2608 & 3062; three printers, tag #s 3158, 3355, & 2598; two overhead projects, tag #s 768 & 1079; four calculators, tag #s 2735, 2747, 2757, & 2758; one upright vacuum cleaner, tag #2928; and two chairs, tag #s 4321 & 4322.

 

·        Approved requests for permission to conduct the following fund raising activities: Jefferson Middle School Student Council to hold an end of the year dance on May 19, 2006, in the JMS gym and the Columbia High School Varsity Cheerleaders to hold its annual Mini Cheer Camp June 19-22, in the CHS Gym.

 

·        Accepted a S.A. Rosenbaum Earthwatch Mississippi Fellowship Grant.

 

·        Approved requests for permission to travel out-of-state.

 

·        Tabled the recommendation for approval of the Ad Valorem Tax Worksheet for FY 2007.

 

·        Approved Scientific Learning as the sole source provider for Fast ForWord software and authorized the district to negotiate the purchase of software.

 

·        Gave second approval of recommended revisions to the following job descriptions – GBBABE, Food Service Secretary/Bookkeeper; GBBAHA, Food Service Manager; GBBAHC, Food Service Cashier; and GBBAHB, Food Service Worker; and district policy JCE Dress Code.

 

·        Tabled revisions to the Student Code of Conduct & Discipline Plan and school handbooks until June.

 

·        Gave first approval of revisions to Sections L and M of the District School Board Policy Manual.

 

·        Approved the 2006-2007 Salary Handbook.

 

·        Accepted the employment resignation of Mary Beth Golson, special education teacher at Columbia Primary School, for the purpose of retirement at the end of the current school year.

 

·         Approved employment recommendations for the 2006 summer/2006-2007 school year as follows: Robert Knight, Maryanne Simpson, Rebecca L. McDaniel, Jennifer Branch, Anne McCain, Angie Adams, Sophia Bickham, Rosa Thompson, Gail Stephens, Wynne Maily, Jan Williams, and Christine Expose as teachers for the 2006 Extended School Year Program; Robert Cheatham as Driver’s Education teacher at Columbia High School; Mike Bass, Jefferson Middle School band director, to operate a summer band program for JMS students; Marvin Adams to serve as SAM/MSIS coordinator; John D. Edwards as maintenance supervisor; Jenny Lee Ann Wigington as a music teacher at Columbia Elementary School and Columbia Primary School; James Christopher Turnage as a teacher/show choir/musical/yearbook advisor at Columbia High School pending certification; Shannon Tucker as a teacher at Columbia High School pending certification; Rhonda Livingston as a teacher at Columbia High School; Gregory Ellzey as a teacher/coach at Columbia High School; Ryan Stringer as a teacher/coach at Columbia High School; and Scott Fitzgerald as a teacher/coach at Columbia High School.

 

·         Approved employment recommendations for classified employees for the 2006-2007 school year.

 

·        Heard a report from the Superintendent which included the district’s degree/experience schedule for administrative staff and certified personnel, an annual board agenda calendar, an invitation to attend the District’s Retirement Reception scheduled for 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2006, in the Columbia High School cafeteria, and district participation in a Fluoride Mouth-Rinse Program sponsored the Mississippi Department of Health.
