REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JANUARY 11, 2006

 

            The Board of Trustees:

·        Reelected trustee officers for 2006: Mr. Gus Markins, School Board President;  Mrs. Rene’ Dungan, Vice-President; and Mr. Charles Boston, Secretary.

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report and budget update.

 

·        Approved FY 2006 budget amendments.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment which is beyond repair: two VCRs, tag #s 526 & 4437; one CD system, tag #2489; six printers, tag #s 4513, 3271, 4510, 2547, 3270, & 4514; one overhead projector, tag #73; nine swivel chairs, tag #s 2026, 2028, 2029, 2030, 2032, 2033, 2034, 2035, & 2036; one camera, tag #2199; one wrench, tag #2623; one fax machine, tag #4072; and one floor machine, tag #1349.

 

·        Approved requests for permission to conduct the following fund raisers: Columbia High School Student Council to hold a Valentine Dance on February 10, 2006, Jefferson Middle School Pearls to hold a Sweetheart Ball on February 24, 2006, and JMS Cheerleaders to sell a video album.

 

·        Authorized the district to submit an application and assurances for an Enhancing Education Through Technology grant in the amount of $12,272.76.

 

·        Accepted a mini-grant from the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).

 

·        Gave first approval of the revised job description for custodians.

 

·        Adopted a budget development calendar for FY 2007.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Laura Horne, cafeteria worker, effective December 9, 2005, Gentle Owens, Jr., elementary music teacher, effective January 6, 2006, and Jimmie L. Sartin, teacher assistant at CPS, effective January 6, 2006.

 

·        Approved the employment of the following persons for the remainder of the 2005-2006 school year: Claire Beaugh as an English teacher at Columbia High School, Tracy Winton as a social studies teacher at Columbia High School, Leroy Stringer as an 11-month custodian at Columbia High School, Oatis Green as a 10-month custodian at Columbia High School, Baxter White as a clock operator for district basketball games, Sabrina Fairburn as a full-time cafeteria worker at Columbia High School, Sherry Spencer as a part-time cafeteria worker at Columbia High School,  Shelia McDevitt and Ginger Bigner be added to the district’s list of substitute teachers, and Sarah Burkett, Brenda Duncan, Claire Von Gahlen, Margaret Johnson, James Joubert, Angela Kemp, Jennifer Parker, and Dallas Whitfield be added to the district’s list of substitute teachers subject to their attendance at the required substitute teacher workshop scheduled on January 13, 2006.

 

·        Discussed confidential legal and personnel matters in executive session.

 

·        Recognized a favorable evaluation of the Superintendent and extended her contract.
