REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AUGUST 11, 2005
The Board of Trustees:
- Approved minutes of previous meeting.
- Heard a report on the 2005-2006 student enrollment and district
facilities.
- Received the monthly financial status report.
- Adopted a resolution declaring an ad valorem tax shortfall during
the 2004-2005 fiscal year and granted authorization to issue a shortfall
loan.
- Approved the amended 2005-2006 ad valorem tax request worksheet.
- Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school
buses for special events.
- Accepted a cash donation in the amount of $500.00 from the
ExxonMobil Foundation designated for the CHS girls’ softball team.
- Approved a request for permission to travel out-of-state at no
cost to the district.
- Approved requests to dispose of the
following equipment that is beyond repair: one cordless drill, tag #638;
two ovens, tag #s766 & 767; one laser disk, tag #2259; one file
cabinet, tag #104; one printer, tag #3363; one typewriter, tag #3980; one
umbrella, tag #4717; one palm pilot, tag #4486; one 2-way radio, tag
#3811; one calculator, tag #1689; two cordless telephones, tag #s 3478
& 3994; one generator, tag #3239; and one balance, tag #3712.

Accepted a proposal from Bruckner’s School Photography to take fall and
spring pictures at Jefferson Middle School for the 2005-2006 school
year.
- Gave second approval of revisions to Section E – Business Management of the District’s School Board
Policy Manual as amended.
- Approved requests for permission to conduct the following fund
raisers during the 2005-2006 school year: CHS Band Boosters to sell
cookbooks and conduct a raffle for a Caribbean Cruise; JMS PTA spirit card
sale, August 20 through September 20, 2005; CES PTA to sell World’s Finest
Chocolate, August 21 – September 6, 2005, sell Nestle’s candy, March 1 –
22, 2006, and publish a CES Yearbook; CPS (2-3) PTA to organize a catalog
sale (candy, gifts, wrapping paper, etc.) with School Smartz, September
23–October 10, 2005, and to sell
World’s Finest Chocolate, January 27– February 14, 2005; and the CHS
Softball team to hold a hit-a-thon on September 7, 2005.

Approved a request for authorization to submit an application for
funding the FY 2006 IDEA, Part B - $445,813 and Preschool - $26,356 project and
the required Statement of Assurances.

Accepted the resignation of Calvin Newsome as a teacher assistant at Columbia High School.

Approved employment of the following persons for the 2005-2006 school
year:
- Dr. Dannye Long as Director of Federal Programs on a part-time
basis;
- Karen M. Johnson as SPED case manager on a part-time basis;
- Shawn Scott Fitzgerald as a social studies teacher/assistant
baseball coach at CHS pending the results of a current background check
as required by State law;
- Dominic Palisi as assistant 8th and 9th
grade football coach;
- Edward Corker as 8th grade boys and girls basketball
coach;
- Darren Smith as assistant CHS football coach;
- Dee Dee Randall as National Honor Society sponsor at CHS;
- Chris Turnage as the yearbook (CoHiAn) sponsor and after school
detention supervisor at CHS;
- Stephanie Guidroz as dance team (Jazz Catz) sponsor at CHS;
- Faye Jefferson as a full-time cafeteria worker at JMS; and
- Diane Brown, Mary Carter, Martin Finley, Amanda Finney, Tracey
Fulton, Kim Gibson, Laurie Harvey, Dick Jordan, Mary Jordan, William
Kraemer, Maria Magee, Lillie McNair, Natalie McShea, Angie Pittman,
