REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AUGUST 10, 2006

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

·        Heard a report on student enrollment.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Approved partnership agreements between Columbia School District (Columbia Primary School) and Pearl River Valley Opportunity, Inc. Head Start/Early Head Start for the 2006-2007 school year.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: one fax/copier, tag #4751; five VCRs, tag #s 904, 4353, 3780, 550, & 1278; sixteen computers, tag #s 2371, 2851, 3651, 3652, 3653, 3654, 3655, 3656, 2607, 3097, 1422, 150, 6264, 4902, 4950, & 3197; five printers, tag #s 2070, 2944, 1668, 4094, & 3673; one phone, tag #2484; one microwave oven, tag #3334;  one video cassette recorder, tag #3333; seven microscopes, tag #3335, 3336, 3337, 3498, 2332, 2330, & 3494;  four video display adapters, tag #s 1193, 1194, 1195, & 1197; one scanner, tag #2864; two wet/dry vacuums, tag #s 3679 & 3954; one file cabinet, tag #4648; and one laser disc player, tag #1272.

 

·        Granted permission to conduct the following fund raiser activities: CHS Limited Edition Show Choir to host a cooking show, CHS Varsity Cheerleaders to sell stadium blankets, CHS Band to sell cookbooks and tickets for a steak dinner, and the JMS PTA to sell Wildcat cards.

 

·        Approved requests from district employees living out of the district for their children to attend Columbia schools for the 2006-2007 school year: Mason Lamar Allmon (CHS), son of Martha Allmon; Roderick Frelix (CHS) and Teresa Watts (CHS), children of Sophia Bickham; Laurie-Beth Boutwell (JMS) and Allen Boutwell (CES), children of Beth Boutwell; Brian Cook (CES), child of Alice M. Rayford; Hope Illyana Cook (CES) and Sarah Cook (CPS), children of April Cook;  Helmon Jeffrey Johnson (CES) and Jasmine Nicole Johnson (CES), children of Angela C. Johnson; Mary Frances Reed (CHS), daughter of Amanda Reed; Wendy Smith (CHS), daughter of Tammy Smith; Zachary Grant Stringer (CES) and Justin Andrew Stringer (CPS, 2-3), children of Kim Stringer; Tyler Barnes (CPS, 2-3), David Smith, Jr. (CPS, K-1), Zackery Smith (CPS, K-1), children of Jacqueline Ratliff; John Taylor Wesley (JMS) and Rachael Wesley (CES), children of Valerie Wesley; Kayla Fortenberry (JMS), daughter of Rachel Fortenberry; and Gavin Fairburn (CPS, K-1), son of Sabrina Fairburn.

      

·        Approved the expenditure of District Improvement Funds to purchase the following equipment: GBC shredder, work cabinet with storage for laminator, band chairs and carts, band stands and carts, and crowd control stanchions for Columbia High School; and tables, chairs, PC desk, and file cabinets for the Fast ForWord lab at Columbia Primary School.

 

·        Granted authorization to remove items identified by the auditor from the district’s fixed asset inventory that have a value of less than $500.

 

·        Authorized the District to enter into an agreement with Wright CPA Group, PLLC to perform the examination of the district’s financial records for the year ended June 30, 2006.

 

·        Approved the recommendation to enter into a lease agreement with Canon Financial Services, Inc. for copier equipment.

 

·        Accepted the employment resignation submitted by Jerri Forbes, bus driver.

 

·        Approved the employment of the following persons for the 2006-2007 school year: Rose Alexander as the Day Treatment teacher at JMS; LaToya Thompson as a teacher assistant for the Fast ForWord lab at CES; Kenneth Lumpkins as assistant boys basketball coach; Edward Corker as 8th grade boys and girls basketball coach; Vertia Allen, Shelly Blackard, E Gay Bosley, Betty Brady, Diane Brown, Dot Fotenberry, Samantha Giles, Bonita Graham, Marsha Betsy Griffith, Bernadine Irvin, William F. Kraemer, Michael R. Lee, Brenda Luethje, Kenneth Lumpkins, Traci B. Magee, Donna Martin, Alisia May, Lillie McNair, Patrinella Moses, Lisa Nolan, Ronnie L. Paige, Artressie Quinn, Gloria Rawls, Debra Reynolds, Brinda Ross, Susan Shows, Melissa Spiers, Chassidy Sullivan, Tosha Taylor, Rena Toney, Cicily Toney, Alisa Watts, Pamela Williams, and Tracye Woodson as substitute teachers; Cheryl Armstrong as a physical education teacher assistant at CPS (K-1); T. J. Jackson as a full-time teacher assistant for the Alternative School; Teresa Blanks as a physical education teacher assistant at CPS (2-3); Flora Chisolm as a full-time bus driver; and Ernest Ryals as a full-time substitute bus driver.

 

·        Discussed confidential matters in executive session.

 

·        Received a copy of the District’s fixed asset audit, events calendar, Student Code of Conduct & Discipline Plan, school handbooks, and MSBA board development workshops.
