REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AUGUST 10, 2000
The Board of Trustees:
- Approved minutes of previous meetings.
- Heard a report from architects on district building projects.
- Authorized the District's Architect to prepare a Change Order to pave the service drive at Columbia High School.
- Approved requests for payment from Clark Construction Company and Albert & Associates.
- Authorized the District to purchase a new air conditioning unit for the Columbia High School auditorium building.
- Was informed of quotes received for aluminum planking for the bleachers at Gardner Stadium.
- Authorized expenditure of General Obligation Bond funds to purchase aluminum planking, sandblasting and painting the athletic field house, restrooms, and storage buildings located at Gardner Stadium.
- Transferred interest earnings in the amount of $15,608.80 from Sixteenth Section Funds to the District Maintenance Fund.
- Approved the Claims Docket for payment of accounts.
- Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.
- Granted permission for out-of-state travel.
- Approved a request from Mrs. Sharon Russell, Director of Special Services, to dispose of old school records.
- Approved requests from employees, living out of the district, for their children to attend district schools: Cody King (CPS, K-1), son of Lori Myers; Lori Beth Boutwell (CPS, K-1), daughter of Beth Boutwell; Rachel Lynn Creel (JMS) and Alfred Collins Creel, III (Trey) (CPS, 2-3), children of Donna Creel; Kent Saucier, (CPS, 2-3), son of Melissa Saucier; Reid Magee (CPS, 2-3), son of Zelma Magee; David Benjamin "Ben" Bankston (CES), son of Beth Bankston; Racquel and Raphael Thomas (CES), children of Annie Pearl Christopher; Lacy White (JMS), daughter of Susan White; Cassandra Nicole Ford (JMS), daughter of Patsy Ford; Sarah Morrow (JMS) daughter of Deanna Sitton; Wendy Nicole Smith (JMS) and Joel Adam Smith (CHS), children of Tammy Smith; Wesley Dickens (CHS), Lisa Dickens (CHS), Kayla Haddox (JMS) and Brittney Haddox (JMS), children of Dana Haddox; Andrew Shivers (CHS), son of Glenda Shivers; Kimberly Elizabeth Carson (CHS), daughter of Pauline Carson; Clayton Dykes (CHS), nephew of Susan Broom, legal guardian; Melissa Marie White (CHS) and Brock Baxter White (JMS); children of Baxter White, Jr.; Cody Seaborn Bass (CPS, K-1); son of Michael and Donna Bass; and William Sanford, (CPS, 2-3); son of Wanda Sanford.
- Approved requests to conduct fundraisers from the CHS Band Boosters (raffle tickets) and the CHS Wildcat Boosters (dinner tickets).
- Accepted a donation of one Yamaha Clarinet and one Yamaha Trumpet from Mr. Robert Simmons.
- Approved a request from Mrs. Sharon Russell, Director of Special Services, to purchase the Dyslexia Training Program from Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, which is a single source item.
- Adopted the Statement of Assurances for test security.
- Approved an increase in pay for substitute teachers.
- Accepted employment resignations submitted by Minnie Ruth Stringer, part-time cafeteria worker at JMS; Dr. Louise Anderson, special education teacher at CPS, K-1; and Gerald Mingo, bus driver/janitor.
- Approved the employment of the following persons for the 2000-2001 school year pending the results of a current background check as required by State law: Leonard Maxwell, janitor (225 days) at CHS; Herbert Otis, janitor (205 days) at CHS; Junior Akins, janitor (205 days) at JMS; Jamie P. Ray, seventh grade teacher at JMS; Yolette Broom, teacher assistant at CPS, 2-3; Linda Young, bus driver; James Bryant, substitute bus driver; Joey Johnson, substitute teacher, (long term); Julie Bunch, substitute teacher; Gail Van Fleet, first grade teacher; Angela Pittman, preschool TA; Sheila Aikens, full-time cook at CHS; Frita Manton, part-time cashier at JMS; Donna Martin, part-time cafeteria worker at JMS; Kelvin Welborn, beginner percussion instructor at JMS; Annie Alexander, bus driver; Linda Blackmon, alternative education TA; and Regina Stringer, special education teacher at CPS, K-1, pending certification.
- Approved coaching salary supplements for Tracy Nightingale, Head Girls Basketball Coach; Wayne Scarborough, Head Fast Pitch Softball Coach; and Tammi West, Assistant Fast Pitch Coach.
- Approved school secretary changes from the secretary salary schedule to the secretary/bookkeeper salary schedule.
- Rescinded the resignation of Melissa Cuevas, bus driver.
- Approved an employee request for maternity leave.
- Received the monthly financial status report.
- Acknowledged reports from principals and supervisors.
- Was informed of the MSBA statement regarding school prayer and the MSBA board development 2000-2001 calendar.
- Approved a District statement regarding school prayer.
- Discussed confidential legal matters in executive session.
- Denied a request for a student to be released to attend school in the Marion County School District.
