REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, SEPTEMBER 9, 2004

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·         Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

·         Acknowledged annual reports from administrators.

 

·        Reviewed the district’s final 2004 Mississippi Statewide Accountability System results.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Was informed that the district received a Teacher Induction Program grant.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Approved the payment of accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Gave second approval of revisions to Section A of the School Board Policy Manual.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: four printers, tag #s 2999, 2549, 4509, & 3280; two VCRs, tag #s 8 & 2504; one TV, tag #62; one computer, tag #2354; and a Hobart 2-door cooler at CES, tag #000927.

 

·        Approved proposed fundraising projects: CHS Tennis Team to hold a raffle for $50.00 worth of gas (The winner of the raffle will be announced at the last home football game on October 21, 2004.); CHS Basketball Booster Club to sell advertising signs for the gym to businesses; JMS Band to sell Great American cookie dough November 1-8, 2004, and World’s Finest Chocolate January 10-25, 2005; CES PTA to sell World’s Finest Chocolate September 13 – 30, 2004, and to organize a Kathryn Beich, Inc. catalog sale in March; CPS, K-1 PTA to hold a Fall Festival on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, and sell cookie dough beginning March 4, 2005; and the CHS Girl’s Basketball team to hold a raffle for a blanket from Iraq. (The winner of the raffle will be announced at the homecoming football game on October 15, 2004.); and CHS Jazz Cats dance team to sell Wildcat spirit items and have a Pizza Shootout during each home basketball game.

 

·        Granted CPS third grade students permission to travel out-of-state on a field trip.

 

·        Accepted proposals for school pictures during the 2004-2005 school year from Lifetouch School Photography for fall pictures at CPS, K-1; Remember Me Publishing Company for CPS, K-1 Yearbook; Mississippi School Pictures, Inc. for pictures at CPS, 2-3; and Bruckner’s School Photography for pictures at JMS.

 

·        Approved the 2004-2005 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) game fees for officials.

 

·        Approved requests from district employees for their children to attend Columbia schools for the 2004-2005 school year: Kerri Mobley (JMS), Jonathan Mobley (CES), Kevin Haddox (CHS), Kendall Haddox (CHS), and Faith Haddox (CPS).

 

·        Approved the Consolidated Federal Programs Application and accompanying Statement of Assurances.

 

·        Authorization the district to submit an application for a Title VI-B-2 Rural, Low Income Schools Program grant.

 

·        Granted an access gate to a property owner.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations from Bonita Robbins, cashier at Columbia Primary School; Teri Sanders, guidance secretary at Columbia High School; and Sidney Watts, janitor at Jefferson Middle School.

 

·        Approved the employment of Stacey Prine as librarian at CES; Calvin Newsome as 8th grade boys’ basketball coach; Edward Corker as 8th grade girls’ basketball coach; Jerri Forbes and Angela Trim as substitute bus drivers; Edmond Sanders as a janitor at JMS; Cindy Shields as principal’s detention II teacher at JMS; Tanya Drake as guidance secretary at CHS; Jerri Jones, Cathy Cotton, Barbara Davis, and Stacey Prine as tutors for the after school tutoring program at CES; Bonita Graham as an alternative education teacher assistant; and Stephanie Guidroz as the Jazz Cats sponsor.

 

·        Gave first approval to revise CSD Policy BCAB “Regular Board Meetings” changing the school board meeting time from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

·        Accepted a proposal from Wright & King CPA for audit services for the fiscal years ending June 30, 2004, and June 30, 2005.

 

·        Heard the Superintendent’s report.

 

·        Agreed to meet at 5:30 p.m., for the next regular meeting of the Board on Thursday, October 14, 2004.
