REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, OCTOBER 9, 2003

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·         Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

·        Heard a proposal for a Facility Study/Long Range Plan for the District.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Heard a report on district building projects.

 

·        Approved submission of the Title VI Rural and Low-Income School Program grant application.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: four VCRs, tag #s 1582,1487, 1127, & 896; one video tape recorder, tag #3240; one digital camera, tag #4598; and two printers, tag #s 661 & 3114.

 

·        Accepted proposals from Bruckner's Photography for fall and spring pictures at Columbia Elementary School and Jefferson Middle School.

 

·        Approved requests to conduct the following fundraisers: Columbia Basketball Booster Club sell advertising signs for the gym to businesses, hold a Little Wildcat Basketball League for district students in grades 3-6, the CHS Band Boosters sell raffle tickets for money and prizes which will be given away at the CHS Christmas concert, and have a fruit sale.

 

·        Approved requests to travel out-of-state to attend conferences.

 

·        Granted the CHS Band permission to travel out-of-state to attend Disney's Magic Music Days in Orlando, FL in the spring of 2004.  This trip will replace the Band trip to attend the Orange Bowl.

 

·        Accepted bids for the 1,000-gallon propane tank and approved the recommendation to sale the propane tank to the highest bidder.

 

·        Approved the recommendation to sell Athletic Activity Passes at a cost of $50.00 for admission to home athletic events for the upcoming basketball, fast pitch softball, baseball, and track season.

 

·        Approved employment of the following persons for the remainder of the 2003-2004 school year: Demetric Cooley as a substitute bus driver; Melissa Pierce as a substitute cafeteria worker; Jackie Cannon, Robert Cheatham, Ashley Haddox, Evelyn Lee, Lynn McDainiel, Michael Novinski, Jeremy Nunn, Jami Owen, Kathryn Parker, Shirley Porter, Bruce Ratcliff, Frances Robertson, Anthony Smith, Brandon Tucker, Baxter White, and Tracy Winton to conduct after-school tutoring/remediation sessions for the state subject area tests on an as needed basis; Beth Bankston, Debbie Guy, Judy Easterling, Lynn Broom, Gail Stephens, Shelley Putnam, and Pam Blanden

be paid for work outside of their contractual time to receive training to implement the Curriculum Progress Monitoring Project; and Shirley Graves, Sophia Bickham, Sara Davis, Angie Burkett, Kim Todd, Robert White, Angie Adams, and Celcia Pittman be paid a stipend for attending Life Skills Training.


 

·        Approved the District's Test Security Plan and the accompanying Statement of Assurances.

 

·        Rescheduled the regular December school board meeting from December 11 to December 4, 2003.

 

·        Received a report from Dr. Long on test scores.

 

·        Was informed that receptions are being planned for Columbia Primary School in recognition of their level 5 accreditation and Columbia High School in recognition of their adequate yearly progress (AYP).

 

·        Heard a report from the Superintendent which consisted of the following: fixed asset management recognition received from the State Auditor, 2004 Legislative recommendations, delivery of the new SPED bus, expected delivery of the new truck for the transportation department, appraisal of Chapman property, ISP services, EdPool investment opportunities, and recognition of Mr. Tim Horton by Cathy Johnson Norris, USM Instructor, and Mr. Anthony Smith for being chosen as an influential person by his former student Abby Watts who is a student at Auburn University.
