Approved requests for permission to attend out-of-state conferences.

Granted the 6th grade Challenge class permission to travel

Approved requests to expend district improvement funds to purchase
playground equipment for

Adopted a resolution stating the intention of the District to refund
outstanding debt of the district and retaining underwriter and legal counsel to
assist with the proposed refinancing in the district’s best interest to refund
a portion of the district’s outstanding State Aid Capital Improvement Bonds,
Series 1998, resulting in a substantial savings for the District.

Accepted the lowest and best bid received from Rainey Electronics, Inc.
for a new baseball scoreboard.
·
Authorized the District to begin the process for obtaining district
accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
·
Approved a recommendation that no changes
be made to the district's insurance and fringe benefits program and that the District’s
IRS Section 125 Cafeteria Plan be continued for 2007.
·
Tabled the recommendation to revise School Board Policy DFK “Gifts and
Bequests to School Districts/Donated Assets”.
·
Granted authorization to advertise for bids for a time and attendance
management system for the district.
·
Accepted the employment resignation of Jennifer Dement, seventh grade
science teacher at
·
Approved the employment of the following persons for the remainder of
the 2006-2007 school year: Debbie Rowell
as food service secretary/bookkeeper; Donna Blansett as a cafeteria worker at
Columbia Primary School; Lesha Abram as a part-time cafeteria worker at
Jefferson Middle School; Annabelle Looker as a substitute cafeteria worker;
Ryan Stringer and Scott Fitzgerald as substitute bus drivers; and Melodie Stogner, Bethany Parker, Erica Shaw,
Shelia McDevitt Edler, Margaret A. Johnson, April Reed, Regina Maxwell, Channie
Reamous as substitute teachers.

Was informed that the Columbia High School Band placed second in the
MHSAA-MBA State Marching Band Contest (Class 3A).
·
Discussed a student discipline matter in executive session.
·
Approved the recommendation to expel a student.
