REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JUNE 9, 2005

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

  • Mr. Jerry Howell, appointed school board trustee, took an oath of office.

 

  • Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

  • Heard a report on district facilities.

 

  • Was informed of the FY 2006 budget development.

 

  • Discussed confidential legal matters in executive session.

 

  • Approved the 2005-2006 salary handbook.

 

  • Approved payment of accounts.

 

  • Received the monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

  • Gave second approval of revisions to the Jefferson Middle School and Columbia High School handbooks. 

 

  • Approved a request to dispose of one printer, tag #145, which is beyond repair.

 

  • Accepted a cash donation from the Jefferson Middle School cheerleaders in the amount of $1,095.00

to purchase a portable building to be used as a school store.

 

  • Approved a request from Ms. Kim Price, School Business Officer, for permission to dispose of records

prior to the 2000-2001 school year.

 

  • Granted Coach Marcus Wood permission to conduct a football camp for children ages 7-14, July 18-20, 2005.

 

  • Gave first approval of revisions to the following policies: JKB, Fund Raising – Solicitation by Students;

GARI, Personnel Leave; and to rescind policy GBRK, Vacations.

 

  • Approved the recommendation to terminate the contract with Kelly Services for substitute teachers and cafeteria

workers at the end of the current fiscal year.

 

  • Approved the district’s reading sufficiency plan for the 2005-2006 school year.

 

  • Approved the 2005-2006 Consolidated Federal Programs application and statement of assurances.

 

  • Authorized the district to renew its contract with the University of Southern Mississippi to provide school

psychologist services for the 2005-2006 school year.

 

  • Accepted employment resignations submitted by Deborah Ann Guy special education teacher at CPS, K-1,

and Tiffanee L. Franklin, teacher assistant at CES, effective at the end of the current school year.

 

  • Approved the following personnel recommendations:

v     Employment of Zelma Magee, speech/language pathologist, and Gail Van Fleet, SPED teacher,

as SPED extended school year teachers; Lisa Pace as a SPED extended school year teacher assistant;

Melissa Arinder, Louise Brown, Joyce Fortenberry, Zelma Magee, and Beth Mock to conduct

screening/assessments during the summer months; Kirk Harmon, Chris Turnage, Mayfield Abram,

 Jayce Godwin, Paul Daniels, Sheena Hamilton, Billy Jefferson, Savannah Ellzey, and Christian Nibert

as summer workers;

v     Chris Turnage, Jennifer Branch, Candace Jacobs, Lela Cox, Jacqueline Cannon, Sophia Bickham,

Celia Pittman, Tibby Johnson, and Kathy Thomas be paid a stipend for three days of professional development;

v     Sherri Andrews, guidance secretary, and Donna Rackley, Data Processor, at Columbia High School

be paid for five (5) additional workdays during the 2005 summer; and

v     Employment of Brandi Perry as an English teacher/assistant girls basketball and assistant softball coach at

Columbia High School, Michael Bass as band director at Jefferson Middle School, and Sara Davis

and Kim Todd as Beta Club co-sponsors at Jefferson Middle School for the 2005-2006 school year.

 

  • Was informed that the D.T. Hales Outdoor classroom has been certified by the National Wildlife Federation

as a Schoolyard Habitat®.
