REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, DECEMBER 9, 2004

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved a request to dispose of one large play structure on the west end of the fifth grade playground which is unsafe and beyond repair and to remove the equipment from the district’s fixed asset inventory (Tag #942).

 

·        Granted the fourth and fifth grade Challenge classes at Columbia Elementary School permission to travel out-of-state to visit the Gulf Coast Exploreum in Mobile, AL, on February 25, 2005.

 

·        Granted the CHS Varsity Cheerleaders permission to travel out-of-state to compete in the National High School Cheerleading Competition in Orlando, FL, February 11-15, 2005.

 

·        Approved requests for permission to travel out-of-state to attend conferences.

 

·        Authorized the following fundraisers: CHS Varsity Cheerleaders to conduct a basketball mini cheer camp and fish fry on January 15, 2005; CHS Basketball team to conduct a Little Wildcat Basketball League for CSD students in grades 3-6 beginning January 8, 2005 and run for five weeks; and CES Student Council to publish a school yearbook for the 2004-2005 term.

 

·        Gave approval of an Enhancing Education Through Technology grant (E2T2) application and assurances.

 

·        Certified that sufficient funds will be budgeted to cover the district’s portion of the services and equipment received from E-rate funds.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Judy Easterling, special education teacher at Columbia Primary School; and Tarrah Sartin, 5th grade teacher at Columbia Elementary School.

 

·        Approved the employment of Rev. LeRoy Henry for the position of In-School Detention Monitor at Columbia High School, Mrs. Melinda Prats as a fifth grade teacher at Columbia Elementary School, Mrs. Gail Van Fleet as a special education teacher at Columbia Primary School pending certification, and Mrs. Natalie McShea as a teacher assistant at Columbia Primary School.

 

·        Was informed that the district’s FY 2005 application for funding IDEA was amended to add a teacher assistant at Columbia Primary School.

 

·        Granted two employees maternity leave.

 

·        Heard a report from the Superintendent which consisted of MSBA board development and the 2005 Trustee Election Calendar.

 

·        Agreed to change the regular board meeting on January 13, 2005, due to the scheduled MSBA school board member training in Hattiesburg.  The Superintendent was asked to reschedule this meeting.  The next school board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2005.
