REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, NOVEMBER 8, 2007

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meeting.

 

·        Commended the Columbia High School Band for placing 1st in the 2007 (Class 3A) Mississippi Marching Band Championship.

 

·        Was informed of the Columbia High School Band community performance scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2007, on Walter Payton Field at Gardner Stadium.

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Authorized the District to setup a separate account for District Improvements/Special Projects.  Additional privilege taxes collected by the City in the name of the Columbia School District will be deposited into this account.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities. 

 

·        Authorized the District to proceed with an asbestos survey, soil samples, and a topographic map for the Columbia Primary School renovation project.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: five printers, tag #s 4278, 4483, 4559, 3348, & 3349; one electric range, tag #358; one gas range, tag #357; and two computers tag #s 4009 & 3816.

 

·        Approved requests for permission to travel out-of-state to attend conferences/workshops.

 

·        Accepted a proposal from Interstate Publishing Company to produce a Columbia Primary School yearbook for the 2007-2008 school year. 

 

·        Approved a request for authorization to organize a Columbia High School Fine Arts Booster Club.

 

·        Approved a recommendation that no changes be made to the district's insurance and fringe benefits program and that the District’s IRS Section 125 Cafeteria Plan be continued for 2008.

 

  • Gave first approval of School Board Policy IKB “Parent Involvement Under Title I” and revisions to School Board Policies GCRA “Working Conditions – Fair Labor Standards Act” and LEC “Booster Clubs and Other Support Groups”.

 

·        Approved the recommendation for approval of the District’s Extra-Curricula Planning Team.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations.

 

·        Approved employment recommendations.

 

·        Received a copy the District’s Strategic Plan Brochure and administrative staff meeting minutes.

 

·        Discussed personnel matters in executive session.
