REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JULY 8, 2004

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Approved the 2004-2005 Ad Valorem tax increase worksheet.

 

·        Adopted the FY 2005 Budget.

 

·        Approved the transfer of interest earnings from Sixteenth Section Funds to District Maintenance.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts.

 

·        Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Accepted cash donations from Winn Dixie in the amount of $168.43 for Columbia High School, $127.69 for Jefferson Middle School, $87.66 for Columbia Elementary School, $129.76 for Columbia Primary School (2-3), and $305.92 for Columbia Primary School (K-1).

 

·        Approved a request from Mrs. Sharon Russell, Director of Special Services, to dispose of the following special education records: Federal projects through the 1998-99 school year, correspondence and general files prior to 2000, records on former students who were ineligible for special education, records on former students who are deceased, and records on former students who were eligible or ineligible for the gifted program prior to the 1999-2000 school year.

 

·        Accepted the proposal submitted by Bruckner's School Photography for all school pictures at CHS during the 2004-2005 school year.

 

·        Granted the CHS Band permission to travel out-of-state to Six Flags Theme Park in New Orleans, LA on July 30, 2004.

 

·        Approved a request from a district employee living out of the district for her daughter to attend Columbia High School beginning with the 2004-2005 school year.

 

·        Approved a request from Mrs. Renee Pounds, Food Service Supervisor, to discard food service records prior to the 1998-1999 school year.

 

·        Approved a request to dispose of three (3) computers, tag #s 2443, 2564, & 3034 that are beyond repair.

 

·        Granted Mrs. Becky Clarke permission to travel out-of-state to attend the School Nursing 2004 Regional Symposia in New Orleans, LA.

 

·        Approved a request for the Powerlifting team to conduct a lift-a-thon fundraiser on July 26, 2004.

 

·        Authorized the District to negotiate the purchase of a "FileX" Document Management System from Digital Filing Solutions (DFS) who is the sole source provider.

 

·        Authorized the District to enter into a three-year contract with Secure Computing for Internet filtering services.

 

·        Approved the final amended FY 2004 budget.

 

·        Accepted a bid from Buffalo Services, Inc.  for transportation fuel for the 2004-2005 school year.

 

·        Approved the revised cheerleader constitution for junior high cheerleaders.

 

·        Accepted the employment resignation of Mrs. Shannon Tucker, special education teacher.

 

·        Approved the employment of Mrs. Dyan Martin as a special education teacher in the Day Treatment class at JMS, Mrs. Shelly Blackard as a music teacher assistant at JMS,            Mrs. Linda Ramshur and Mr. Kensley Waller as teacher assistants at CES, Mrs. Berry Nell Budjick as a teacher assistant at CPS (2-3), Mrs. Carolyn Herrod as a full-time cafeteria employee at JMS, Mrs. Nelda Terry as a substitute bus driver, and Mr. Calvin Newsome as a teacher assistant in the district's alternative program for the 2004-2005 school year pending the results of a current background check as required by State law.

 

·        Granted an employee maternity leave.

 

·        Discussed confidential legal and personnel matters in executive session.

 

·        Gave second approval of revisions to Section G (Personnel), Section I (Instructional Program) and Section J (Students) of the District's School Board Policy Manual.

 

·        Expelled and placed two students in the district's alternative program for the 2004-2005 school year.

 

·        Was informed of the 2004-2005 opening of school schedule.
