REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, FEBRUARY 8, 2007

 

            The Board of Trustees:

 

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

 

·        Recognized Mrs. Glenda Shivers, 2007 Administrator of the Year; Mrs. Angela Norris, 2007 Parent of the Year; and Columbia High School students, Mr. Stephen Berry for making a perfect score on his Biology I subject area test; Mr. Roderick Jefferson, National Merit Achievement finalist and Coca-Cola Scholars Program semifinalist; and Mr. Michael White, Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association essay contest winner. 

 

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

 

·        Heard a report on district facilities.

 

·        Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts.

 

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

 

·        Approved a request to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: one digital camera, tag #4600; two printers, tag #s 3112 & 4562; thirteen computers, tag #s 2790, 2784, 2779, 2972, 2952, 2949, 2955, 2947, 2980, 2978, 2975, 4149, & 2974; and one VCR, tag #1488.

 

·        Authorized the district to submit an Enhancing Education Through Technology (E2T2) grant application and a Safe Routes to School grant application.

 

·        Approved a request to continue the Columbia High School positive incentive program with the New Orleans Saints NFL organization and authorized the purchase of season tickets for the 2007 football season from the organization who is the sole source provider.

 

·        Approved a request for out-of-state travel to attend the National Educational Computing Conference.

 

·        Authorized the Columbia High School French Club to sell Bon-Bon candy as a fund raiser.

 

·        Approved the 2006-2007 budget revisions.

 

·        Denied a request to waiver the district’s rental fees for the use of school facilities.

 

·        Accepted employment resignations submitted by Mr. Henry Carr, bus mechanic, for the purpose of retirement, effective January 31, 2007; Mrs. Glenda Shivers, Principal at Columbia Primary School (K-1), and Mrs. Donald Hales, Principal at Columbia Elementary School, for the purpose of retirement, effective June 30, 2007; and Warren Selman, Jr., bus driver, effective February 9, 2007.

 

·        Approved the employment of M. L. Pittman as head bus mechanic, effective  February 12, 2007; and Brenda Haynes, Amanda Laird, Charles Lee, and Edna McFarland as substitute teachers for the 2006-2007 school year pending the results of a current background check as required by State law.

 

·         Approved the recommendation for continued employment of the following persons for the 2007-2008 school year: Dr. Dannye Long, Director of Federal Programs;         Mrs. Cathy Creel, Director of Curriculum/Instruction/Testing; Mrs. Sharon Russell, Director of Special Services; Mrs. Kim Rogers, School Business Manager; Mr. Steve Harmon, Director of Athletics/Transportation; Ms. Sheila Burbridge, Principal at Columbia High School; Ms. Sydney Mire, Assistant Principal at Columbia High School; Mr. Raymond Powell, Principal at Jefferson Middle School; Ms. Angela Burkett, Assistant Principal at Jefferson Middle School; Mr. Loren Monk, Principal at Columbia Primary School; Mrs. Renee Pounds, Director of Food Services; Mr. John D. Edwards, Maintenance Supervisor; Mr. Marvin Adams, Technology Coordinator; Ms. Aleise Henry, District Network Specialist; and Mr. Michael Bullock, Technician.

 

·        Changed the regular monthly meeting of the School Board from March 8 to March 15, 2007, due to a conflict with the Mississippi School Boards Association board development workshop.

 

·        Discussed the district’s evacuation procedures.

 

·        Discussed a personnel matter in executive session.

 

·        Approved the Superintendent’s employment contract.
