 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF MARCH 7, 2002 AND THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF MARCH 21, 2002

            The Board of Trustees:

·        Approved minutes of previous meetings.

·        Received the monthly financial status report.

·        Was informed of the smooth transition to transmitting the new method of student information (MSIS data) to the State Department of Education.  School data processing personnel, Mrs. Wanda Grenn, Mrs. Linda Barber, Mrs. Susan Broom, Mrs. Patsy Speights, and Mrs. Dana Haddox, were commended for an outstanding job.

·        Heard reports on district building projects.

·        Authorized the Interim Superintendent to negotiate a cost for extending the canopy at the west end of the Jefferson Middle School campus.

·        Was informed of a new bus route in the Popetown area.

·        Approved the Claims Docket for payment of current accounts.

·        Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events.

·        Approved requests to dispose of the following equipment that is beyond repair: one cordless phone, tag #3477; three computers, tag #s1126, 144, 2027; one printer, tag #1125; and one calculator, tag #3930.

·        Granted second approval of revisions to the following district policies: JBC "Student Admission Policy and Procedures," JBCA "Verification of Residence Policy," JBCB "Non-Resident Students Policy and Procedures," JBCBA "Tuition Policy," JDB "Detention Policy," JDF "Discipline Reporting Procedure," JFB "Valedictorian/Salutatorian Policy," JGCC "Infectious or Contagious Diseases Procedure," JGFA "Emergency Drills Policy," GBAA "Certified Staff Appreciation Awards Policy," and GBAB "Non-Certified Staff Appreciation Awards Policy."

·        Adopted the 2002-2003 District school year calendar. (See the District's Web Page for calendar.)

·        Accepted employment resignations from Mrs. Donna Martin, cashier at Jefferson Middle School, effective February 19, 2002, Mr. Gary Smyly, Principal at Columbia High School, effective June 30, 2002; Mrs. Judy Smyly, Mrs. Dee Dee Williams, Mrs. Connie Copeland, teachers at CHS, Ms. Leta Lowery, Ms. Sharina McNair, teachers at JMS; Mrs. Jerry Branton, teacher at CPS, K-1; and Mrs. Jamie Hilburn, cafeteria manager at CES; effective at the end of the 2001-2002 school year.

·        Approved the employment of Ms. April M. Etzold as an English teacher at CHS, Ms. Joy Smith as cafeteria cashier at JMS, Mrs. Anne Freeman as a cafeteria worker at CES, and Mr. Steven Paul Jones as head football coach to conduct spring football training for the remainder of the 2001-2002 school year.

·        Granted an employee maternity leave.

·        Approved certified employment recommendations for the 2002-2003 school session.

·        Heard a report from the Interim Superintendent which included the NSBA Conference continuing education credit, 2002 SACS accreditation, the federal programs monitoring visit, etc.

·        Discussed confidential legal and personnel matters in executive sessions.
